Ughsmash (3982), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA May 3, 2007 750mL bottle. When I untwisted the cage just enough, the cork exploded out of the bottle.. glancing off my forehead into the abyss.. since I’m in a hotel room, I really couldn’t care less. The brew poured a moderately deep reddish-brown with a tall, rocky cap of creamy beige head. The aroma picked up dried berries and vinous notes with a pinch of dust and some roasty caramel.. only complaint is that the dust got a little in the way at times... really good, though. The flavor was even better.. toasty caramel, molasses, and vinous fruits form a formidable flavor core with brilliant accents of dusty, peppery spices from the heavy yeast presence and some alcohol warmth. A hair greater than medium-bodied, and almost syrupy across the middle.. great contrast of dusty and spicy notes at the edges. This was some really good stuff! cgarvieuk (4159), Edinburgh, Scotland May 1, 2007 Updated: Mar 20, 2008Brown with a loose short lived foam head, strong slightly sour malt nose, bit too much fizz, rich roast malt with little bitter malt linger, and a bit too yeasty 2.8...
Tk2 Big thanks to Joris for this aged bottle Deep copper colour ... sweet bready with plums nose ... rich sweet bready malty treacly ... plums raisins ... madiara ... this bottle is in stark contrast to the previous bottle. must try another fresh one to see if its the age that make the difference. biggcb (459), Harleysville, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 30, 2007 Bottle. Taste is acomplex combination of fruits, malts, and yeast. dmradus (225), State College, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 24, 2007 Bottle at Delirium Cafe, Brussels. Pours a deep brown with nice red highlights in the light. Aroma is sweet and fruity, with berries and cherries. Some yeast funk presence as well as slight spice is noticeable. A bit of alcohol warming upfront in the taste, along with dark pit fruits and a lingering sweetness. There is also a nice, slight, subdued chocolate dark malt presence as well as some dough. Slightly sour in the finish. Palate is a bit flat, uninspired.
