4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
A - Murky chestnut brown to a dark, murky tawny color. Slight reddish tint. Large, foamy, bubbly, and off-white with a slight beige hue. A bit below average retention and some spotty lacing left.
S - Strong dark and citrus fruit smell along with some dark malt aroma in the background. Well spiced with cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, coriander, and a bit of pepper. Also strong Belgian yeast smell and some dark candi sugar. Nice complex aroma, with typical Dubbel aroma with a bit more spice.
T - Follows the nose pretty well. Initially there is a lot of malt and dark candi sugar. Then the dark fruit starts to come out more. Then, bam, a load of spices (same as the nose) comes through. The finish is a nice mix of rum soaked dark fruit and spices with a nice background of malt and dark sugar. Belgian yeast flavors is also fairly present throughout the sip.
M - Slightly more than medium body with a bit more than average carbonation. Quite smooth with a tingly and warming finish.
D - Good drinkability. Complex flavors that donít kill your palate. The spice might be a little strong, but it isnít bad for drinkability.
Notes: Another good offering from a good brewery. Solid Dubbel that is well spiced. Well balanced and complex flavors that interplay with each other nicely. Definitely worth a try.

Smaak van zoete pruimen, caramel wat langzaam in gebrande noten overgaat met kersenbonbon als nasmaak. Aroma is kruidig zoet, mandarijn en wat chocolade. Goede kraag op donkerbruin. Wat veel koolzuur.

Trying to relive the Westvleteren 8's I had at In De Vrede on two occasions last summer.
Overflowed out of the bottle a touch. Poured into a Westmalle glass with a tight, white head. Deep cola brown and a gentle lacing too.
Smells of raisins and yeast.
The taste starts with the same raisin sweetness, but also adds some sherry and a sour-apple-y Belgian yeast character.
Quite spritzy on the mouth.
Overall, Brune's have never been my favourite style...more of a poor man's strong dark and Quad, but this does bring a bright, candi sugar quality to the equation which gives it its own quality.

Murky brown pour. Bready flavour with dried fruit and yeast. The use of candi sugar, Iím sure, keeps the body light. Very tasty.

UPDATED: DEC 1, 2013 Bottle: murky, leather brown in color; fully opaque, filled with tiny bits of sediments, & capped with a dingy, off-white layer of fine foam that lasts for a long time & leaves nice lacing behind. Complex around of grapes, apple skins, pears, plums, earth, dirt, caramel, brown sugar, rotten banana, spice, Belgian yeast... Very sharp & in your face, void of heavy phenols & any unwanted chalkiness. Taste contains notes of sweet grapes, juicy plums, candied dates, sugar-coated raisins, clove, cinnamon, apples, caramel, toffee, cocoa powder, earthy esters, toasted bread-y & spicy Belgian yeast. Phenols eventually show up, but in a mild & controlled manner, balanced well by the sweetness of the brew. Burnt sugar, malty, toffee, & dark-fruity finish. Much better than the Pater 6 in my opinion, fantastic dubbel.

Bottle. Dark red. Starts with a big foamy head. This dies down to form a small white head which endures. Thin, dry lacing on the glass. Smell - typically yeasty, alcohol coming through. Body - medium to light, slightly foamy, a little spritzy carbonation. Taste - liquorice forward, dark fruits and sweet malts. Slightly drying. OK.

Slightly cloudy brown. Small white head leaves small bubbly islands. Marzipan, dark fruits in alcohol, raisins, touch of milk chocolate, brown sugar. Taste is sweet, but goes to a bitter finish quite fast. Medium mouth, with quite a lot of prickly carbonation. Overall very nice, great taste, but it is also a bit light and undefined.
