| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Jul 11, 2005 Deep, unclear red-brown with a lasting off-white head. Complex aroma with dried fruit, flowers, oak-wood, dirt and the slightest hint of alcohol. Sweet, malty flavour with a bit of bitterness (anise-like) and a dry finish. Very soft mouthfeel. Tastes malty, fruity, with finishing orange, cranberry, toffee, caramel, and even watermelon. Smooth finish with well hidden alcohol and a multitude of flavors that seem to go together. Very complex and enjoyable. Lubiere (4556), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 11/20 | Jan 24, 2003 Head is initially large, frothy, light brown, mostly lasting. Body is murky dark orange-brown, bottle conditioned. Aroma is moderately yeasty (dough, soap), lightly malty (caramel, nutty), with light notes of clove and toffee. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Medium body, velvety texture, lively carbonation. The St. Bernard brews are just too yeasty (stinky doughy/soapy yeast) for me to enjoy fully. HenrikSoegaard (4443), Randers, Denmark

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 9, 2003 Cousin to the Tripel I guess; same massive creamy lacey head, this time topping a deep burgundy body. Nose a bit faint, but malty chocolate-banana tinges are there. Creamy and silky on the tongue, with much caramel and brown sugar, and those candied bananas again. Not on the level of the 12, but truly excellent and for me another confirmation that I generally like the "brown" Belgian ale styles more than the "golden" ones. bhensonb (4404), Woodland, California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 14, 2007 Rich aroma of mildly dark fruits - plum and cherry, perhaps. Ripe hazy reddish amber color with a decent light beige head. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Flavor of caramel, plum, straw(?), coffee, citrus. The finish is lightly astringent, relatively dry, and mildly bitter. A soothing, ripe ale. Mouthsmackingly good.
