330ml Bottle. This pours a dark reddish brown with a think light tan head that doesn’t hang around for long. Its aroma is sweet but with a decent whiff of burnt caramel and dark fruits. It tastes sweet too with hints of cocoa caramel and toffee with a tart bitter then sweet finish. Comes with lots of added burps!! My 1st abt so I can’t compare it with others.

Taste: spiced, bold earthy, with notes of clove and wild yeast. Complex candi sugar and bread nose. Brown/amber color, unfiltered with refine bubbled head. Alcohol finish liquid breads that sustained the monks.

Opaque amber brown pour with a finger or two of creamy, lush head. Aroma of dried fruit, raisins. Taste is full - caramel malt, more dried fruit, dates. Has a slightly bitter hoppiness cooled by a candied sugar sweetness. Palate is full, creamy yet crisp, and absolutely delicious. Great beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Lively out the bottle, a deep dark mahogany with a tan lingering head. Smells of roasted treacle and malt. Has a thick oily texture which coats your mouth and lasts well. Taste of sweet malt and loveliness.

Brown color. Lots of carbonation. Metalic, yeasty (like the bottom of barreling bucket after primary fermentation), some caramel deep in there, some nuttiness, has a funky lactobacillus smell, but no sourness in flavor. Actually not that pleasant smelling to be truthful, but opens up as it sits in the glass a bit. Rich, caramel flavor, clear clove notes. Vanilla. A roasted and phenolic bitter finish. Leaves mouth numb. A good dubbel, but #1 of the style? Not in my opinion.

Pours dark liver, with tan head. Aroma is chocolate, caramel, blackberry, tobacco. Powerful, oily, mouth-covering. Nice umami and sour mouthfeel, almost no bitterness. Medium-persistence finish.

Recent and less recent samples, mainly 33cl bottles, here bb08/2019 (BL1). Aromatic 2-day old, leavened currant brown bread/rozijnenbrood smeared with sirop de Liège boldly hop-bittered for balance with fennel, mustard seed - pours like half a Westflemish dish in a glass, attenuated to older fruit caramel dryness.
