Not sure why me but unlike the other reviews I had a good size head on this one. Off white in color. Dark brown beer , definitely aroma of caramel. Maybe a little hint of pepper on the backside. St Bernardus is on a roll with me. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Mahogany brown color, beige creamy head. Marzipan nose, Belgian yeast, candi sugar, raisins, hint of anise. Belgian yeast taste, candi sugar, caramel malt, hint of alcohol and dried fruit. Full to medium body, average to soft carbonation.

Brown color. Lots of carbonation. Metalic, yeasty (like the bottom of barreling bucket after primary fermentation), some caramel deep in there, some nuttiness, has a funky lactobacillus smell, but no sourness in flavor. Actually not that pleasant smelling to be truthful, but opens up as it sits in the glass a bit. Rich, caramel flavor, clear clove notes. Vanilla. A roasted and phenolic bitter finish. Leaves mouth numb. A good dubbel, but #1 of the style? Not in my opinion.

Pours dark liver, with tan head. Aroma is chocolate, caramel, blackberry, tobacco. Powerful, oily, mouth-covering. Nice umami and sour mouthfeel, almost no bitterness. Medium-persistence finish.

Recent and less recent samples, mainly 33cl bottles, here bb08/2019 (BL1). Aromatic 2-day old, leavened currant brown bread/rozijnenbrood smeared with sirop de Ličge boldly hop-bittered for balance with fennel, mustard seed - pours like half a Westflemish dish in a glass, attenuated to older fruit caramel dryness.

Dejligt balanceret. En anelse beskhed i slutningen. Fyldig krop og solidt karboneret. Olieret konsistens og bittersød afslutning. Overall: Velsmagende, lidt humlet, Dubbel i yderst god balance. Værdig lillebror til Abt 12'eren. 33 cl, flaske, 8.0 % ABV, BB: 06/10/19, købt i Den Belgiske Ølbutik i Vanløse. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Dark brown and hazy with a dense tan head. To me this is a small version of the St Bernardus Abt... all the same flavours... bread, red fruit, bubblegum, banana, yeast... just less complex and easier drinking. Really good.

A yellow-brown dark liquid with little beige head. Aroma is freshly baked sponge cake, plums, caramel. Some spices as well. Taste was sour and not much else. Not the expected malty sweetness, that the aroma seems to predict. Additionally some alcohol warmth. Full body with medium finish. Overall likable, but the taste was somewhat disappointing.

UPDATED: APR 6, 2016 Dobry belg to dobry belg, mistrzostwo slodów i fermentacji. Mocny zapach ciemnych slodów, rodzynek, czerwonych winogron, moszczu. W smaku suszone sliwki i figi, troche karmelu, nuty jablek i agrestu. Dlugi wyrazny finisz, lekko kwasowy i pieprzny. Alkohol dobrze ukryty, piwo w ustach lekkie, nisko wysycone. Sama przyjemnosc z powolnego saczenia.
