Poured a dark red amber with large brown head that subsides after a while leaving good lacing. Obviously many will want to compare this to the Abt 12, but it is quite a different beast. The first thing that strikes me is the sweetness, not in a bad way, this beer is well balanced, but you certainly notice the candy sugar, and what I would assume is a lengthy boil. Chocolatey toffee notes that cling to the back of the palate. No hops noticeable as one would expect. Overall, this is an exceptional double, that is really quite unique. Certainly worth hunting out, in my opinion, and whilst different from the Abt 12 (surly a good thing), this is none the less exceptional.

Pours a murky brown with a thin off-white head. Aroma is dark fruits, brown sugar, and caramel. Flavor has more of the caramel and less of the rest, with a touch of boozy sweetness. There is a booziness that gets in the way of the aroma and flavor. Gets better as it warms up, but I still wasn’t all that impressed.

Pours a deep opaque brown with a thin cream head leaving sheet lacing. The nose is raisins and caramel. The taste is the same with a full body. Although it has more structure and flavor profile than the Pater 6, the initial impression was that there would be more depth. 11.2 oz bottle in a variety pack with a best by date of 8/24/17.

An outstanding beer, IMHO almost as fine as Westvleteren 8, the best in the world. I have sampled many times at home and keep a couple of cases for aging; at a bar in Brugges; at a bar in Brussels; mostly in 330s but also in 750s. Warm, attractive nose with caramel, chocolate, fudge, malt, walnutes, herbs. Perfect head which is white as the driven snow. A very smooth presentation, goes down nicely but it has not the incredible smoothness of Westy. Lasts and lasts.

Plum, fig, spicy, banana, bubblegum. Slight caramel, but not very sweet aroma. Well carbonated with a nice mouthfeel. Flavor has some anise, dark fruits, candi syrup, melanoidins,

11.2 oz. bottle from The Hop Yard, Raleigh, NC. Brown pour with a foamy light beige head. Aroma of green raisin, candi sugar, and dark fruit. Taste is sweet, but not too sweet, offering a strong malt profile but enough fruitiness to keep this from becoming overly sugary. Moderate warmth. As close to perfect of an example of a dubbel as you could possibly find.

0.33l bottle. Hazy dark orange body, huge off-white. When opening the bottle it pours out a bit. Aroma and taste of caramel, chocolate, cherry, plums and reisins. Qiute sweet and full-bodied. Nice one.

Bottle @ home. Cloudy mahogany with a foamy off-white head. Flavors are bread, dried fruits, caramel, chocolate, brown sugar and alcohol with spicy and soapy notes. Medium to full body, lively carbonation, oily texture.

Pours a dark hazy ruby-brown with a large foamy off-white head. Floral aromas, Belgian yeast, plum, date, and cherry on the nose. Has a nice full body with a slightly chewy mouthfeel. There’s a nice amount of sweetness, but not overly so. A sort of dry cherry flavor is present along with that familiar St. Bernardus/Belgian yeast flavor.
