jhumphries69 (718), Tyrone, Georgia, USA Dec 9, 2006 Pours very dark with hints of brownish orange shining through. It pours with a medium sized tan head that fades relatively quickly, but not completely. The aroma has caramel and malts along with some soft fruits (apricot, banana). The aroma has also hints of toffee and distinct smell of alcohol. The flavor at the beginning follows the aroma, but with much more malt and caramel than fruit. Flavors of raisin bread, bitter hops, and dark fruit (plums) reveal themselves on the middle of the tongue. The beer finishes somewhat dry and bittersweet (some roasted grain flavors showing through in the end) with virtually no after-taste. The finish also has some alcohol warming the throat as you swallow. The mouthfeel is splendid - quite creamy and light - particularly light for such a strong beer.

I can’t say much about the appearance as the table in the corner of the bar was pretty dark. Excellent aftertaste, not super bitter like American beers. DeadGirl (192), West Palm Beach, Florida, USA Oct 25, 2009 Pours a darker, rich amber from the 750ml. bottle with tiny sediments dancing around the carbonation in my pint glass. Amazing head retention. Ripe prunes, dates, and figs swirl around a mild alcoholic presence (bourbon). Mildly tart, sweet (molasses) and yeasty. So wonderfully balaced. Drinkability: BombMer. Rebuy: Sure. 25102009, DG.
