Bottle shared by yrcrz - thanks! Pours cloudy and brown with a thin head. Aroma is sweet and malty with some cheese and spice. Taste has delicate malt and spices. Plenty of sweetness, and some vanilla too. Clean finish. A fine Dubbel.

330 ml bottle from bier-deluxe.de.
Dark copper, clear body, with a big, creamy, stable, beige head.
Aroma with loads of dried, dark and somewhat fresh fruits, sweet apples, nuts, brown sugar.
Taste with the above mentioned aromas, also marzipan and slight roast.
Mouthfeel is medium, quite creamy, with a fizzy carbonation and it finishes warm, moderate bitter, fruity-sour and a bit sweet malty.

Delicious! Everything you want from a Dubbel, but with an even better balance than most beers of style and with loads of lovely, multifarious aromas! Also pretty easy to drink, leaving you with a smooth warmth. Simply a perfect Dubbel!

A decent abbey dubbel that doesn’t get me all that excited. Dark, dried fruits. Medium palate. Some nuts. I expected more. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

33 cl bottle at home. I’m going to be up front , this is an awesome beer. Pours a clear dark brown colour with a nice white head. Beefy, mellow, sweet, dark and luscious. Dark fruit, malt, sweet and lovely. A terrific beer, rich on the palate with a lovely finish. This is one of my favourite beers, a world classic. I am being a bit mean with the ratings, seek out and enjoy. Beats Westvleteren?

Pours hazy dark brownish with a lasting beige head. Decent lacing. Malty aroma of sugars and caramel. Something roasty as well. Bit yeasty, some dark fruits, spices... A tad of alcohol, some vanilla... Quite nice. The alcohol is somewhat disturbing though. Taste is a bit inbetween dry and sweet. Clear taste of the malts and the fruits. Moderately bitter, nice roastiness and a nice alcoholic kick that gives a lovely warmish mouthfeel in its bitterish end. Quite nice and quite well balanced. However, it doesn’t last that long... Medium bodied, thinnish, yet creamy mouthfeel. Overall seen, quite a nice brew. It is definitely tasty and enjoyable, however not that groundbreaking also. Have had better dubbels though. Maybe I’m expecting too much.

The smaller brother of the famed Sint-Bernardus Abt 12, with a thick, moussy, light beige, very lacing head, very stable, and a deep, dark bronze colour, clear but hazy with deposit, as expected. Aroma of bitter chocolate, molasses, raisins, dried plums, grass, leather, straw, iron, black pepper, dried banana, caramel, bourbon, soapy hops, nutmeg and quite strong liquorice. Taste begins with a refinedly sweet, dried fruitiness, raisins, dried banana again, apple, medium but still minerally carbonation, slick and slightly oily mouthfeel, deep caramelly and somewhat nutty and chocolatey malts, lots of spicy yeastiness in an elegant way, dry finish with grassy, leafy ’European’ hops along with the chocolate maltiness lingering on and a warming, whisky-like alcohol effect, on the brink of becoming wry but just managing to avoid that. Another great Sint-Bernardus, relating to its bigger brother in much the same way as Westvleteren 8 relates to Westvleteren 12: leaner, lighter, more dry and a tad more restrained, with a less ’attacking’ bouquet. Still a great beer in which malts, hops and yeastiness are balanced to perfection. I will do a side-by-side tasting of this with Westvleteren 8 soon, and I’ll do the same thing with Sint-Bernardus Abt 12 and Westvleteren 12 the same day. Do not (completely) believe the people who tell you this is an easy-to-find alternative for Westvleteren 8: though the similarities are striking, this still is a great beer in its own right, and I am quite convinced I can tell the two apart in a blind tasting. Same for the bigger versions, I’d like to add.

Old rating rerated 22.10.2014, 0,33l bottle shared with a colleague @ hotel room in Ulsteinvik:
Nice creamy mediumlasting head. Aroma is mild fruity, yeast, banana, caramel malts, dried dark fruits, grass, sugar bread, almonds. Taste is slightly dry and harsh boozy, grass, almond essence, old leafs, harsh yeast, paper, banana, sugar. Medium bitterness, harsh mouthfeel. Fair enough.

Flesje, 33cl.

Bellissimo e complesso l’odore. Cereali, biscottini al burro, frutta candita. Poi mele alle castagne e pere, cioccolata , mosto dell’uva. Sul.finire cannella e coriandolo. C’è di tutto ed è duraturo. In bocca sento prugne, poi cioccolata e biscotti al burro. Il finale è alle castagne, ma astringente. Qualche sentore di frutta. Corpo pieno e carbonatazione massiccia, è cremosa in bocca. Non richiede una bevuta continua ma meditativa. Il retrogusto è di biscottini ai cinque cereali glassati con il cioccolato al latte. Per i miei gusti top dei top. Ottima
