UPDATED: JUL 21, 2012 Bottle. The pour was a murky medium brown with an average sized (1-2 Finger) fizzy white head that was mostly diminishing and had fair lacing. The aroma was of a toasted cookie malt, light herbal hops and a moldy yeast with notes of dark fruit (prunes and raisons) and caramel. It tasted bitter-sweet and a tad sour with a hint of caramel at first and finished about the same but with a strong note of dried fruit towards the end. The flavor lasted an average time proceeding the swallow and had a nice fruity aftertaste that lingered a bit longer. Mouthfeel was medium in body and oily in texture with a lively carbonation. Overall a superb tasting Abbey Ale with a great drinkability, which did a great job of hiding the high ABV...

Pours dark amber with a bubbly head that leaves a thin but creamy top with good retention. Aroma of cherry and other berries, yeast, dough and some raisin. Medium body, creamy feel, fizzy carbonation. Taste of caramel, sourdough, dark chocolate and sweet licorice. Long lasting and slightly bitter finish.

2015/03/21 - Pours a cloudy dark brown/amber colour with a foamy, khaki head that quickly reduces. Aroma is yeast, dough, herbal hops, raisin, toffee and nutty notes. Taste is very yeasty, herbal hops, nutty notes, toffee and mild raisin. Sweetness is very subdued. Mouthfeel is medium with lively, biting carbonation and a dry, herbal finish. Not my favorite St. Bernardus beer as I expected it to be a little sweeter and malt forward, but it was still enjoyable. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Ruby red with orange hues when held up to the light. 1 1/2 finger off white head that lingers for a while. Visible yeast sediment. Aroma is cherries, dates, candied sugar and belgian yeast. The taste follows the nose along with a rich caramel malty sweetness. Finishes bone dry. Very nice beer overall.

Bottle from a mixed StB case. This is quite a rich dubbel, somewhere between figs and chocolate cake. Light body for its gravity (as the Belgians do it). Not really that sweet or estery.
