2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Head is initially average sized, frothy, white, mostly lasting.
Body is dark yellow.
Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (toasted grain), lightly hoppy (flowers), moderately yeasty (basement/cement), with notes of pepper, banana, apple, cotton candy, and alcohol.
Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter.
Medium body, watery/syrupy texture, fizzy/lively carbonation, moderately alcoholic.
I have never liked the St. Bernardus yeast, being very much like damp basement/cement, and this is chock full ío that. Add in the cotton candy and apple notes, and this just isnít enticing at all to my nose...pepper and toasty malt are pretty much the only good points. Sweet and more boozy than the 6% would suggest. Not a fan, and Iím also confused why this is considered a witbier since it doesnít seem to have any characteristics of that style (other than being vaguely Belgian-styled). *shrug*

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle, 75cl corked. Almost clear in the glass, golden in color and with a small, dense, white head. The aroma is quite sweetish and sugary, fruity and with some toffee-ish hints. Itís quite nicely carbonated, full to medium bodied and semi-dry. Fruity and malty flavor with banana hints, a generic fruityness, toffee, honey, flowery notes and some bitterness. Lasting finish with fruityness, some white sugar and toffee notes. Quite nice and tasteful this one, although a bit sweetish. 150328

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
750 ml right now and also had on draft back when it was released. (Forgotten about bottle in my cellar) The bottle obviously doesnít fair as well. Cloudy gold with lots of bubbly carbonation. Aroma shows me moderate Belgian yeast with a zesty character, light floral ness, with light clove. The flavor has dried flowers with a strong chewy yeast presence. Grain and pepper round out the flavor. It clearly has some oxidation in the flavor and I really didnít intend to hold it this amount of time. That said, still rather drinkable.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
May 3rd, 2013 - The Tokyo Watou combines all of my favorite things - Japan and Belgian brews. The bottle and label make excellent shelf decor, but the beer itself is a bit of a let down. Like the regular pure-Belgian Watou, the body is hazy and straw gold, with a thick, white corky top. The aroma is hard to pry from the surface, but the taste is light and sweet. The semi-fruity flavor of yeast blends with the rich base of cracked wheat is good, true, but not deep or complex. In that sense, it is a let down, but only because by design it combines so many of my favorite things.

"Different hips than the Blanche, but very much still a wit beer. Orange and. Oriander present as a soft citrus aroma and flavor. Nice hopping for the style and a light refreshing palate."

Ik drink al niet heel graag witbieren, er zijn er goede bij, maar dit is er niet bij. Ik vond het niet zo goed.
