fidelis83 (707), Clinton, Iowa, USA Jan 30, 2009 Pours a very milky honey gold with slightly green accents and a 2 finger creamy beige head that simply never goes away and leaves some of the nicest lacing around. Aroma is earthy citrus, fresh dough yeast, straw, spicy yeast, a little banana and some citrus tanginess. Flavor is grainy malt at first follwed closely by lots of toast and some caramel, then a little lemon. In the middle the toast and caramel remain dominant and more citrus notes move in, with some dark fruit and spicy yeast, which becomes more bread like rather quickly. Finish is grainy, toasty, citrus and spicy yeast. This stuff is what I would imagine a marzen brewed with Belgian yeast would be like-fantastic. JustinFromAL (112), Birmingham, Alabama, USA Jan 28, 2009 12oz bottle. Cloudy orange-yellow with a lot of particulate. A nice frothy two finger head. Smells citrus, with some sweet fruit underneath, lots of yeast. Did I mention the yeast? Yeah, it’s there in the taste as well. it’s bready citrus. Nutty. Much sweeter than I expected. A nice Tripel! Quinten (954), zaandam, Netherlands Jan 24, 2009 Heazy golden, medium head, full fruity one with peach, banana, some citrus, not very complex, smood one with gentle sweets. agl108 (503), Manayunk, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 24, 2009 750 mL bottle at Flat Rock Saloon. Poured cloudy orange with some patches of lace. Sweet, fruity, and finishes with a spice. Pretty much what I expected, solid. bubbleflubber (885), Collinsville, Virginia, USA Jan 20, 2009 Pours a murky orange-tea hue, with tons of yeasty floaties. A billowy head ensues, with thick, chunky lace left sticking to the glass. Yeast, dough and citrus to the nose. The flavors are extremely well-integrated, with sweet malts, light bitters, various fruits and lots of yeasty dough. Some banana fills out the doughy finish... an extension of the flavor palate. The mouthfeel is soft, yet decently carbonated. A very nice offering here. ryanknock (150), San Francisco, California, USA Jan 15, 2009 Hoppy, sweet and slightly fruity, a delicious Trappist Ale. All is in balance, it is rich, yet dry and lingering in the finish. The hops are prominent up front, yet it is not too bitter in the finish. This beer is a conundrum of sorts, has little complexity in any one aspect, but is an enjoyable ale. BOLTZ7555 (1053), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Jan 10, 2009 14 karat body produces a fluffy white head. Aroma is much more earthy than the Westmalle Triple...grassy, yeasty, and with a hint of green apple. Flavor follows the nose and also adds a slight malty sweetness. Enjoyable. Slayer85 (582), Firenze, Italy Jan 8, 2009 750 ml bottle. A very cloudy deep yellow beer with a big, compact and persistent white head. The aroma is quite sweet and on the malt side, though not very powerful nor particularly complex. Decent with some floral and grassy notes from the hops and some coriander. The flavour is better than the aroma, not overly sweet with some spices and a nice hop charachter. Again not the most complex tripel, but rather well balanced. Lightly sour. Medium to full body, lively carbonation, dry and quite long finish with medium bitterness. I expected more, but this is quite good.
