Skidds (252), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Aug 24, 2008 Poured a slightly cloudy golden orange with a thick white head. Sweet aroma of yeast, citrus and other fruity notes I couldn’t quite finger specifically (peaches maybe?). Flavour was quite spicy with yeast and fruit. Spicy finish. I was happy to try this one. Appearance: Pours a clear, bright, orangey-gold body topped proudly with an inch of white foam.
Smell: Sweetish, malty nose with hints of spicy hops, fruit-flavored bubblegum, booze, and more candy.
Taste: Sweet pale maltiness with a tiny bit of breadiness to it. Large dose of toffee candy. Drop of lemon extract, a drop of vanilla extract. Spicy, flowery hops with a medium-low bitterness. Splash of bubblegum liqueur with its accompanying alcohol heat. Tiniest bit of sourness rides into the otherwise sweetish finish. After a few sips, a growing taste of black pepper develops.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Sticky mouthfeel. Medium-high, slightly prickly carbonation.
Drinkability: Another very good tripel from the St. Bernard Brewery-err, I mean Brouwerij. Though, for me, when pit side-by-side with the Watou Tripel, I do defer to the Watou. HughConway (364), Alabama, USA Aug 20, 2008 Bottle. Pours golden with nice white head. Aroma of fruit and yeast. Flavor is deep, sweet, spicy, fruity, yeasty. Gorgeous finish. Excellent tripel. PsionSaint (51), Colorado, USA Aug 19, 2008 Golden orange color with white head. Pleasing aroma with citrus overtones. Flavor is balanced between sweet as expected with Belgium beers and a bit spicy/sour which was interesting. Very good tripel overall. Blom (390), Odense, Denmark Aug 19, 2008 Orange with a firm head. Yeasty aroma full of orange and spices. The initial moutfeel is completely numbed by an aggressive carbonation, that I’m not fond of. The flavours are spicy and sweet along the lines of peach. beezz86 (68), Jasper, Indiana, USA Aug 16, 2008 Bottle. Poured a clear, golden color with a nice white head. I thought it had a slight citrus and spice aroma. The beer had a medium body, oily texture, very lively carbonation, and an astringent finish. Interesting flavor with a mixture of sweet, sour, and bitterness. This is the first tripel I have every had, but I wasn’t impressed. I do like the continual frothiness, but would not buy this again. JB175 (1654), Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 13, 2008 Golden color with a medium-large head. Aroma has some nice sugary-citrusy essence with a bit of spice. Flavor is a bit of spicy/sweet/sour sugary goodness that is tough to beat. A classic tripel Jblauvs (530), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA Aug 11, 2008 light Orangey pour is hazy, with full white head. Light malt aroma, fruit, a little peppery.Flavor reflects this, fruity and crisp, finishes with a little spice.
