St. Bernardus Tripel

Nose is caramel and slightly citrus with a little pepper in the background. Cloudy-golden color and loads of sediment. Lots of lacing from puffy white head. Tastes include pepper and citrus hops, mixed with caramel sweetness and hints of sour apples/apple cider. More pronounced malts with some wheat as it warms. A nice tripel, but little pricey.

750 ml brown, Belgian bottle. Corked and caged. No freshness date, but a cryptic mark on the cork, like a lower case "A". Loud pop released the cork. Poured out a deep orange / yellow color, with a thick white head. Carbonation is persistant. Aromas are of pineapples, black pepper, funky yeast. Flavors are of peppery yeast, tropical fruits, earthy hops, lots of malts. Thick mouthfeel, but normal body. Tasty beer overall. Alcohol is well hidden, but sneaks up on you.

First off, I love the Belgians. Effervescent, tingle of hops. Champagne and fruit. Tasteful and long lasting palate. It sparkles and shines without being too fruity. Plus a drunken monk is on the front of the bottle...Praise god!

Pours a murky light brown with lots of carbonation. Big, thick, fluffy white head. Sweet fruit aroma with a dash of yeasty breadiness, maybe some caramel. Flavor is sweet and fruity: very rich malt. A big alcohol presence. Lightly dry finish. Wonderful.

750ml bottle. Poured a cloudy, honey-straw color with a very nice looking white head. Left a ton of lacing on the glass, and the head lasted untill the end. Beautiful beer. Aroma was spicy with some floral character. Lots of spice, refreshing, fruity, dry finish and no alcohol coupled to make it very drinkable and hard to sip slowly. medium, fizzy mouthfeel . Delicious

A- Pours a slightly cloudy tangerine hue with a large eggshell head that slowly fades to tons of lacing. S- Smell is sweet and deeply reminescent of Belgian yeast. Spicy and funky with light apricot undertones. T- Taste is a array of blended spices, earthy belgian funk with a dry, tangy finish that leaves you constantly going for another sip. M- Somewhat light with a good amount of carbonation that dances on the tongue and tickles the throat as it goes down. D- This is highly drinkable and even though i’m not a huge Belgian fan this tripel really does it for me. It takes a Belgian yeasty taste that turns me off to quite a few other beers and makes it so enticing its hard to put down.

Poured a bottle into a tulip glass. Inch tall head that settled into about a 1/4 inch covering that lasted throughout. Nice lacing. Very nice looking glass of beer. Golden, honey colored. Very tiny, compact carbonation. Smelled of yeast, fruits, alcohol. Very well balanced. No particular aroma stood out, but all worked together. Delicious, well balanced. Some fruit, some yeast, some hops, some malt, all working together. A very balanced beer on a par with Westmalle Tripel. I noticed a lot of carbonation that made my tongue tingle a bit, otherwise I’d give it a 5 on mouthfeel. Warmed the palate after it went down. Slight bitter and alcoholic aftertaste that warmed and then left the palate quickly. Very drinkable, but tasted strong with the alcohol not as well hidden as the Westmalle. But an excellent, delicious beer. And my wife says I look like the monk on the label!

Light leather-brown, average head. Pleasant doughy, light banana, nutty (almond) and leather aroma. Lightly malty, honey flavor with light tartness.
