dmac (1417), Toms River, New Jersey, USA Feb 3, 2008 11.2 oz bottle. Pours a very urky orange with a large, go figure, foamy white head that disipates but leaves a nice slick of white floating on top of the orange liquid that lies beneath. Tropical fruit, bananan and pineapple mostly, dominate the aroma with some yeasty notes and a slight touch of raisin. Medium bodied with very lively stingy carbonation and a slight metallic aftertaste. Flavor of bread, yeast, slight pepper and orange. The guy on the bottle is probably smiling because he’s wasted. xnoxhatex (1305), Grand Rapids/Chicago, Michigan, USA Jan 31, 2008 Sampled blind at "Better Know a Style: Abbey Tripel" tasting. Slightly hazy pale orange with thick off-white head. Spicey aroma with a wierd tortilla smell, very light. Flavor is dough, orange, yeast, subdued alc. Sharp carbonation with medium body. A very standard and subdued tripel that might be a little too old. Furseth (1328), Kungälv, Sweden Jan 28, 2008 Bottle at 3-små rum: Hazy golden colour, with creamy head. Aroma is typical belgium beer with lots of yeasty/fruity/flowery nose. Flavor is almost the same, with typical wheety mouth feeling. Nice medium body, and a medium fruity finish. Nice beer endeed. gmonroe10 (172), Netherlands Jan 25, 2008 Poured a light amber, nice and gold. Small head that quickly went down. Sweet aroma of apples and pears and alcohol...taste of light carbonation and nice and sweet- fills the palate but is smooth as well. Dry mouth after the sweetness- good balance. A very enjoyable tripel. SQNfan (591), Wheaton, Illinois, USA Jan 24, 2008 Deep golden in color with a tinge of red this poured a very fine thick head that slowly dissipated. The nose was filled with banana, spice, yeast and mineral. In the mouth this is medium-bodied very well-balanced with an enticing mouthfeel that has some richness but is also silky soft. The flavors follow the nose which makes this both a nice beer for the summer, due to the flavors, and the winter with the density. Very enjoyable. DenverLogan (421), MileHi, Colorado, USA Jan 23, 2008 Updated: Mar 10, 2008Cloudy gold; nice lingering head. Sweet malt and powder sugar aroma and flavor, plus slight white pepper and citrus. Overall a beautiful balance. I’ve enjoyed dozens of big and small bottles and many glassed on tap. A world class tripel. Years ago I had a blind tasting of 24 tripel-like beers and this was voted in the top 3 by the 9 tasters.
mixinnixon2000 (227), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jan 22, 2008 bottle. tried it out of a St. Bernardus verity pack. very light in color, cant remember the head situation. sour and tart, with a presense of yeast tripelthreat (75), Soquel, California, USA Jan 22, 2008 11.2 oz. bottle into generic goblet. Cloudy copper with a medium head that quickly fades. Tart cider and vinous notes in the nose. Initially sweet and then sharp on the tongue. Plenty of apple and pear flavors and sweetness that is countered by just enough of a sour note and bitterness to keep things interesting. The mouthfeel softens later but remains tart and dry, unlike other tripels where the sweetness builds and takes over. A great tripel.
