strangaj (229), West Chester, Ohio, USA Mar 16, 2007 Pours a cloudy beige with mild but persistent white head. Aroma is thick with malt and fruitiness. Medium body taste with a hint of bitter citrus that is smoothed by the malt. Finishes equally smooth and wet. Initially I thought the heavy malt aroma would overshadow the citrus in the taste, but the palate was suprisingly well balanced. I’m not rushing out to buy another, but it’s not a shameful brew. ekstedt (2411), Göteborg, Sweden Mar 14, 2007 Updated: Jun 15, 2009Bottle, 33 cl. Pours cloudy deep golden into a trappist glass, and develops a foamy white head. Spicy, yeasty, and citrusy aroma, and also a strong malt character with notes of hay and honey. Smooth mouthfeel. Flavour is too sweet and alcoholic, with little bitterness to balance things up. BustedFlat (552), Edina, Minnesota, USA Mar 13, 2007 Updated: Jun 27, 2007Poured from an 11.2 ounce bottle into a tulip glass, hazy orange golden with a fluffy white head and a lot of floaters. The aroma was of yeast, fruit, citrus and apples. The taste was very sweet up front with notes of honey and butterscotch, which gave way to spices and a slight bitterness as it warmed. There is a small alcohol bite and a very creamy mouthfeel. Simply wonderful.
CheersMate1 (766), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Mar 13, 2007 Nice brownish gold color. The head is nice and adds to the beers semi-creamy texture. I found the flavor to be lacking. It is a great beer, but the flavor surprises me because it does not stand out. I love the Abt 12 because the flavors are rich. The beer, as I continue to drink it, proves to be creamier and creamier. I like this beer, but I believe it goes down almost too smooth without leaving much of a flavor behind. SDalkoholic (1186), Chula Vista, California, USA Mar 12, 2007 A sweet and delicate aroma of sugar and spice with background full hearted yeast. Liquid is a hazed and nearly opaque golden orange color with minimum amount of foam. The drink is a medium toned tripel with definite yeast presence and dash of spice. Has slight metallic aftertatsewith an almost dry finish. An abbey tripel worth revisiting in the future.
BrideOfFrankenkitty (44), Illinois, USA Mar 5, 2007 Smelt of maple, like the bullseye candies found in penny candy stores with hints of citrus. Pour a honey color, with a this creamy head that disapated into a thin cramy head. Floaters like the spice in pumpkin pie filling just added to the eye candy. The taste was simply lovely. Creamy, rich, alcohol, faint sugar and plums. As I said, simply lovely. Soonah (900), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA Mar 5, 2007 Pour was a cloudy copper and gold with a thick pillowy white head. Left good lacing. The aroma was pepper and spice initially but lightened up as the beer opened up. Fruit and yeast took over as the main fragrances about half way through the bottle. The flavor was a nice blend of honey, banana and mild spicyness. Incredible mouthfeel. Super velvety with a succinct finish. My experience with Tripels is somewhat limited, but I thought this one was much better than Chimay white. charlotte (1996), Vanløse, Denmark Mar 5, 2007 Golden colour littel white head and Aroma of fruit.Taste of honey and flower mild and nice beer.
