33cl bottle, courtesy of and shared with Gnoff.

Dark brown color with amber reflex; small head. Mild aroma, roasted malt and whisky. Good caramel and chocolate flavor, quite sweet, with traces of roasted malt, roasted nuts, smoke, and a whisky-like alcohol vein. Chocolatey final, liquor filled chocolates, with some roasted malt. Very pleasant.

Bottle. Pours dark brown, verging on black. Aroma is full of roasted malt, chocolate, coffee beans, and very evident wood and whisky notes. Medium to full bodied, with some sweetness, and a firm bitterness. On the palate, wood and whisky are dominating, against a background of roasted malt, vanilla, coffee, chocolate, and some hops and smoke. Rather long, dry, woody finish. It feels like a somewhat youngish beer, that would gain from a little more time in the bottle. Now it’s quite rich in flavour, but not particularly complex, something that surely will develop with time. (2010-12-22)

courtesy of Per - dark black coloured with a poor head retention; Laphroaig-like aroma (smoke, tar and band-aid) with chocolatey notes underneath; fairly sweet and with a moderate carbonation; the body appears surprisingly modest relatively to the alcohol content; a late tart bitterness introduces a long smokey chocolatey finish with notes of ashes and warming alcohol

Bottle. Pours out in a dark brown colour with a small bubbly tan-coloured head. Peat, salty licorice, soy, wood and roasted malts in the aroma. Nearly full-bodied with notes of salt, dark chocolate, tar and roasted malts. Rounded medium-bitter finish of peat, tar, licorice, white pepper and roasted malts.

(Bottle) Pours dark, dark brown with pale brown head. The aroma is holds smoky whisky up front with notes of tar, peat, wood and burned rubber. Chocolaty malt alongside hints of vanilla and dried fruits in the background. Notable alcohol. Too bad the decent malt profile drowns in whisky. The flavour is light to medium sweet and light bitter. Lots of tar-ish smoke alongside a mild malt roast. The mouthfeel is light tart and soft (yet too clean) with a light carbonation. Only whisky lingers. Clear alcohol notes. Medium bodied. Whiteout the strong alcohol and whisky notes this could have been a malty paradise.

Bottle 33 cl. Dark brown with an orange hue and a small off-white head. The nose has sweet raisin and distinct peated smoke and a little iodine. Medium body, low carbonation, sweet dark dried fruit with lots of peat, tar and iodine. Subdued bitterness in the finish but some alcohol. I’m far from a fan of Islay beers, but this one I found quite interesting. 050211
