The aroma is subtle, the taste less… You’ll get the full load of spicy citric hops and a very bitter palate. Still it’s refreshing and not too heavy. A medium body and a long bitter finish build the framework. St. Feuillien collaborated with the US brewers of Green Flash Brewery in order to create a ’true’ north american Ipa - and they did it!

I fondly remember the conversation I had with the brewer of Green Flash at the Saint-Feuillien stand at the Horeca Expo of Ghent last year, explaining to me how he had launched his West Coast IPA onto the Belgian market through the help of Saint-Feuillien. Apparently this story had a prologue the year before (2013), in the form of this collaboration brew - a true ’Belgian IPA’, if such a substyle is to be recognized (well, our colleagues at Beeradvocate recognize it, so why not). Very thick (requiring careful pouring, that is), yellowish white, dense and moussy head over a cloudy orange blonde beer with brownish hue. Very fruity aroma, reminiscent of pineapple slices in syrup, iron, warm apple cake, dried orange peel, honey, sweet white grapes, overripe peaches, mint, cane sugar, rosewater, dried leaves, liquorice, raw red cabbage, leek and potato soup and some damp cloth, but faint enough not to disturb. Vivid fruitiness in the onset, pineapple, peach and gooseberry, sharp and spritzy, minerally carbonation, drying, with a soft and mellow, nutty malt sweetness for back-up; towards the end, it becomes more and more yeasty and more and more hoppy, with a bready, powdery and somewhat meaty yeastiness buried under an assertive, leafy, peppery hop bitterness, lasting long and succeeding in countering the initial fruity sweetishness, but in a ’European’ kind of way, less citrusy and perfumey than I had hoped. The carbonation is strong enough to leave a tingling feeling on the tongue after you’ve sipped it - perhaps you could call this a bit ’overcarbonated’, but in a totally natural way. Very interesting, fairly complex and recommendable, though I still prefer Green Flash’s own West Coast.

Pours a nice clear amber with big pillowy, cavitated sea foam head leaving spotty lacing. Unfortunately(?), this bottle (gifted) is over 14 months old - typically a death sentence for an IPA. Let’s see what we’ve got here. Aroma is fruity, yeasty, and dusty - . Not the brightest aroma, but it has aged very well. Taste is richer, stickier, heavier after all these months. Really, really dry with very high carbonation, fizzing in the mouth. Hard to knock it for being old, but this is all I have to work with here, people. I think I’m still getting the main idea of this beer, however, and it’s questionable whether I’d like to try this again. Scratch that - I’d always like to try a fresh beer of any sort. Over and out.

Bottle 33cl. Amber with a white head. Hoppy aroma and some yeast which reminds me more of a saison beer than an IPA. Plesant but not what I’ve expected. In the flavour the hops are much more present. More bitter hops though and not the well knoen american hops. Good beer.

Fabulous. It has all the hallmarks of a good IPA (well-hopped, a bit of a floral edge on the nose) but occasionally surprises you by feeling like you’re drinking a tripel.
