St. Feuillen’s centuries old brewing traditions combine with Green Flash Brewing Company’s cutting edge brewing techniques to form our first collaborative brew: Bière De L’Amitié (Friendship Brew). A blond Belgian collaboration ale, brewed with St. Feuillen’s traditional yeast and spices. For a modern twist, we add rye malt, wheat malt, and American Amarillo hops. At the crossroads of collaboration, we dry-hopped the brew for more zest. It’s old-world Belgian Abbey-style meets new-world American craft brewing - and a friendship is formed.

A: The pour is a hazy pale yellow color with a huge white head. S: The nose is of sweet light fruits such as apples and pears, grass, and light malty sweetness. There is a touch of metal in there too, for some reason, along with subtle yeast esters providing some spice. T: Sweet and bready malts with plenty of green apples, sweet pears, and floral honey-like notes. There are some nice grassy hop notes as well. M: The body is on the light end of medium with a very lively carbonation. D: Like pretty much everything else Green Flash does, this was a winner. Very nice and easy to drink (especially for such a high ABV beer).

Served on tap at the OTM Tasting Room. The appearance is a fairly hazy yellow with a nice size white head. The aromas are bready and yeasty with some citrus hops trying to poke through. The flavors are creamy with the expected bready/yeasty tones but the new world additions really come through nice with a woody malt notes, a citrus note too. The mouth is really creamy. I really like this one. A little pricey for the bottle so I am glad I found it on tap.

Thanks to blutt59 for sharing this bottle. The beer pours a hazy light yellow color with a white head. The aroma is yeast, pepper and lemons. The flavor is orange citrus, wheat, yeast and alcohol. A nice, fruity Belgian ale from two good brewers. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Glad I got to try this one.

Clear yellow with a creamy white head. Lightly hoppy and fruity aroma and taste with a crisp citrus finish and a soft palate.

750 ml bottle. The cork was at first difficult to disgorge, but then shot out with a bit of the beer over-spilling the bottle. Pours a very hazy pale straw gold with a massive white head that lasted through mid-glass and coated the glass with each sip. There are dozens of streams of tiny champagne-like bubbles quickly rising from the base of the glass. The aroma is light and I am guessing being hidden by the large head. There is some mild malt along with a few whiffs of sugary sweetness and spice. The flavor is malt, mild Belgian yeast, light spice and just a touch of sugar. A bit of black pepper and lemon at the finish along with some noticeable alcohol warmth. Ok as it is, but I was expecting more.

Bottle. pours straw-like yellow, hazed, white, rocky and lacy head. nose of saison yeast and straw, but very bright and clean...do i smell the rye? maybe. maybe some coriander too..no wait...definitely some coriander. nose was refined...flavors a little less so...the sweetness is a bit overly present...and distracting..making the spices seem overdone, the alcohol doesnt play in to that scenario very well either...making it all a bit cumbersome. There’s some lemony touches throughout...but the sweetness and alcohol make this beer a bit overdone and not so great. Not a big fan of this...its a hot, sweet somewhat mess....but the nose was nice.

Very pale golden coloured beer. The nose is surprisingly light and soft. There is a touch of soft berryish fruitiness as well as some light spice, but it is quite light. The palate is quite soft – there is a touch of Belgian malt but the yeast and spice are very subdued. Light lingering spice. It’s nice, but much more subtle than I would have imagined.

UPDATED: SEP 6, 2010 (750ml bottle) Pours hazy straw yellow with white head and active carbonation. Aroma is slightly anise, herby, and bark? Getting some lavender or other floraly herb. Some of the citrus is there from the belgian part of the collaboration. Taste is sweet/sour with bitterness. The rye characteristic is certainly there. Light bodied with oily texture. Carbonation is lively and finish is slightly bitter. OK beer. My concern about the two breweries collaborating was that Green Flash would overhop the beer as is the case with many west coast brewers, but they added some finesse and didn’t overpower their partner. As a big St. Feuillien fan, I can say that I prefer their beers when they do all the work, but this was a nice beer.

Thanks to Bu11zeye! Super intense carbonation. slight rotten banana flavor. Maybe a banana pudding that has sat outside for a couple days.
