COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
St. Feuillen’s centuries old brewing traditions combine with Green Flash Brewing Company’s cutting edge brewing techniques to form our first collaborative brew: Bière De L’Amitié (Friendship Brew). A blond Belgian collaboration ale, brewed with St. Feuillen’s traditional yeast and spices. For a modern twist, we add rye malt, wheat malt, and American Amarillo hops. At the crossroads of collaboration, we dry-hopped the brew for more zest. It’s old-world Belgian Abbey-style meets new-world American craft brewing - and a friendship is formed.

UPDATED: MAY 14, 2011 My Bottom Line:
This fluffiest of Belgian Strong Ales is the setting for an intricate flavor display where doughy, bready yeast, herbal hop resins, citrusy spices and cushiony pils malts coalesce. Elegant, very drinkable for its size, complex and inspiring.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sturdy tower of foam protects the hazy gold.
-Light alcohol warmth greets the palate upon the first sips, but is quickly forgotten once the mellow hop bitterness starts to build on the tongue.
-Subtle bubblegummy phenols add complexity
-The aroma is spicier than the flavor profile, which is more in tune with a classic, albeit fruitier, Tripel; the citrusy character of these spices is redolent of ginger and citrusy thyme varieties.
-All flavors are so well integrated into one another that they almost indistinguishable. An amazing display of cohesion and restraint from the brewer.
-I would never have guessed that Amarillo was used. These American hops were used parsimoniously, which I appreciate. Other more noble varieties seem to be at play as well.
-A second bottle proved to be very good, but not as divine as the first. Mouthfeel was overly prickly. The yeast pour did add some cohesion to the flavor profile, but it wasn’t world-class like the first bottle I had.

Bottles.

Pours a very slightly hazed golden blonde color with a large, long lasting, loosely formed white head. Constant streams of bubbles whirling throughout the brew. Aroma is Belgian spicy, white peppercorn, hint of coriander, and a grassy note. Flavors come together really well in this brew, unlike many Belgian IPA style beers. Might be the low co-humolone (sp?) of the Amarillo, who knows? Who cares, this tastes good! Flavor is up front honey accented malts, peppery spice middle, and a citrus hop finish reminiscent of warm pineapple. Note of hay as well. Refreshing for such a strong beer, the ABV is quite hidden. Great stuff!

Pastry dough and hay-like notes to the pleasant aroma that reminds me of a sweet saison with some underlying tropical fruits and musty character. Hazy golden body is topped by a fine bubbled white head that recedes to a thin cover with slight lacing. Really well balanced beer offers plenty of sweet malt character with some sour wheat apparent, great hopping that doesn’t overwhelm the spicy nuances but manages to be quite assertive all the same. Medium body has a silky smooth texture and creamy mouthfeel that is offset by wonderfully piquant carbonation. Flavour opens up as it warms and bitterness becomes more sharply defined. Tulip glass. Just above fridge temperature. Bottle (BB22/04/12) purchased at Bottleworks in Seattle in February, 2011.

overcarbonated. light yellow with a huge white head of tightly packed bubbles. smells of funky lemons, and spives( pepper, minor bit of lavender, thyme, dried bell pepper). i’d enjoy ranting about "yet another belgian ipa" and i have a good 5 minutes i could do on it, but i can’t this is good. not the kind of good that appeals to all facets of me, but this is a good example of what a "belgian" ipa can be. touch down oklahoma, fuck you florida state. this is dry, and leaves that powder like note on my toingue that i am a sucker for. hopped up flavor that has a dried cantoulope flavor to it. dry, with light spice coming out with each sip. citrus is flavorfull and melds well. the yeasty flavors are perfect for thisl, little bit of funk, dry, some bread notes, and pepper.

750 ml bottle. Pours bright yellow and hazy. Nose is lemony, yeasty, citrusy, light hoppy. Taste is very fluffy, lemon/citrus, light hop, with the alcohol noticeable but not overpowering. Very effervescent and carbonated. Easy to drink. Delicious.

Bottle from CBC. BB 06/06/14. Poured into an Achel Trappist goblet, bright orange color with a well carbonated crackly white sudsy head, light webby lace left on the sides of glass. Nose is spices and citrus, nutmeg, anise, light lavender and more herbal notes along with fresh pulpy orange juice, lemon, light pineapple, tropical fruits and coconut milk. Flavor is lemony and citrusy upfront, super juicy and easy to drink. Spice is a bit more retrained in the flavor but more tropical fruits are noted, especially this creamy coconut note that keeps coming back to me and fits nicely in balance with the rest of the flavors. Relatively dry, light spice and rye in the finish. Alcohol barely noted. Very impressed by this one. Thanks to Evan from bottle shop for the recommendation. Get it while its fresh!

750 ml bottle @ redlight redlight. Minty pine with grassy and hay with a fruity spiciness on the nose. Pours hazy yellow gold with a thick fluffy white head. Slightly funky, not extremely hoppy, tropical fruits with spices with grassy hops with hints of grapefruit zest. Wonderful to drink with thick white lacing through the entire glass. Excellent.

Pours clear bright gold into a tulip. Bright white head with good retention recedes to skim surface. Sweet caramel, bread and resin aromas. Sweet hot caramel upfront turning peppery in the lasting candi and resin finish.

750 ml purchased at Winooski Beverage Warehouse (Vermont), on August 2, 2011, drank yesterday. Misty golden blonde, medium head. Spicy aroma of malted barley, citrus hops, notes of yeast. Taste of herbs dry hopped with hints of citrus, raw barley, bitter and spicy aftertaste. That’s a good friendship!
