Commercial Description:
This brown ale has a marked ruby brown colour with a generous and lasting head. It has a distinctive aroma reflecting the wide range of ingredients used in its production. The fruitiness resulting from its fermentation blends harmoniously with a dominant liquorice and caramel flavour. The body is decidedly malty. The bitterness is the result of a complex alchemy between the fine hops and special malts used. These give St Feuillien Brune a typical dark chocolate appearance.

Rerate: A bit of smoke in some of these beers; the Bretty nose and slight fruity hop and yeast charateristics shine at 60 deg. A world beater, IMO. Has fresh nut meat components. Original: 2/20/2002: Perhaps my favorite brew yet. The aromas of malt, wood, chocolate and some fruitiness (not as much as I anticipated) were outstanding. As others have mentioned, it is very effervescent, almost too much, and thinner than expected. I haven't liked that in some dubbels, but it works here although the palate rating drops a hair. The finish is very long, dry, fruity but also quite bitter, at the same time, and all in a good way. Middle is fruity as it warms, but not overly so. No sign of pepperiness in the finish or middle, but some noticeable alcohol burn at the end...just enough, really. A very refreshing beverage.

75cl bottle from Kingdom Liquors (Tampa, FL). Pours a dark walnut color with a thin white head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is sweet malt, caramel, honey, toffee, raisins, dark ripe fruit, sweet candy. Flavor is sweet and malty with ripe plums, figs and dark ripe fruit. Medium body with sweet and malty finish. Nice ale.

Small bottle. I liked this as I do with the others I’ve had from this brewer. Though didn’t care for the noel strangely. Brown with a creamy coloured head. Mild tasting for a brune but not flavourless. There more complex brunes, plenty of room in the market for this in my eyes. A little spice and caramel. Not bad.

Bottle 75 cl. Pours a dark brown colour with beige lasting head. Aroma is spices, caramel, hints of dark fruit and grass. Flavor is much of the same, with tones of citrus kicking in as well. Good.

A beer with a low taste, not very special. I prefer the blond one, or even the chrtismats one.
