Delbomber (387), Philadelphia, USA Dec 23, 2001 Chestnut brown with a quick, compact head, emanating an aroma with elements of black grape, cherry, berry, melon, and cantaloupe. Flavor is rather ripe, as the cherry, melon, and subtle almond/amaretto flavors compliment the chewy, smooth maltiness. Finish is malty, fruity, and slightly alcoholic. If it weren’t for the harsh beginning, I would have no complaints. I didn’t experience the bitterness fishman mentions, although he did let his warm considerably longer.
KAggie97 (1884), Ugly, Hot, and Humid Spring, Texas, USA Aug 9, 2008 Bottle. Pours a raisin brown with a nice off-white head and an aroma of subtle raisin, candied sugar, and dark peach. Flavor is an immediate rush of alcohol followed by roasted nutmeg, and berry bread. Average mouthfeel. Pair with pizza rolls. BoBoChamp (618), Gent, Belgium Jul 23, 2008 33cl, from De Hopduvel Gent, very complex X-Mas brew, balanced, clear, good head, the best of the St.-Feuillien range, a topper! Mogwai (164), Askeby, Denmark Jul 9, 2008 Bottle 75 cl. Pours a dark brown / amber colour with lasting off-white head. Aroma is x-mas’sy, with lots of spices, dark fruit, malt, caramel. Flavor is much of the same, with hints of chocolate and wood. Very good. padrefan98 (592), (San Diego) Santee, California, USA Jul 4, 2008 Bottle purchase at Beverages for Less in Santee. Dark brown pour, with a huge head that lasted a couple of minutes. Lots of maltiness on the nose, and toungue. Caramel, and spice for a nice finish. Lumpy (1530), Carrollton, Texas, USA May 15, 2008 Bottle. Body-deep ruby brown with a thick foamy head. Nose-big medium sweet Belgian nose, bready, light caramel, medium alcohol, very Belgian smelling. Taste-high CO2, banana, light metal, lightly sour on the backend, dirty tasting, very light Granny Smith apple, white grape, almost no sweetness, light wood flavor, apple skins, cheap tobacco, leather, rose water, unsweet grape, scorched molasses without the burnt element, raw almost nasty taste on the backend that makes the whole thing feel unrefined.
