4.9 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 20/20 corkyrory66 (229) - BELGIUM - FEB 1, 2013

Small bottle, ordered from Vinmonopolet Nettbutikk. Pours a slightly hazed brown shaded deep red, with an airy beige top. Sweet roasted nuts, ginger and cardamom, and a some peppery caramel to the nose. Mid-bodied. Spiced and herbal, medium sweet malt base. Nutty, earthy and yeasty. Discreetly hopped. Warm spiced pepper-ish malt finish. A more than decent Christmas seasonal.

Appearance: no pop from the cork, but poured a caramel/cola brown with a frothy, creamy light tan head nonetheless. Aroma: ginger snaps, molasses, candied orange peel, hint of yeasty, clovey spices. Taste: brown sugar, dates, molasses, ginger, clove, cinnamon, nutmeg, cherries, raisins, and a hint of anise seed. Finish: creamy-tingly-spicy, with lingering yeasty and sweet notes. Notes: A nice holiday brew, as expected from this brewery. A sipper for sure, with excellent depths of flavor.

0.33l bottle. This is a crystal clear dark ruby-brown one with a big - no, make that massive fluffy and everlasting off-white top that’s leaving some pretty heavy lacings down the sides of the glass. On the nose this is definitely Belgian alright. Yeasty with a soft fruitiness, but it’s the spices that dominates. Cloves and star anise mainly, well, at least that’s the one I can distinctively separate from the rest. I’m sure there are more blended in here. OK, let’s taste it: Quite heavy and aggressive on the carbonation this! It has a strong Belgian flavor with candied sugar, Belgian yeast and Belgian fruitiness. The spices are more blended, and actually quite tricky to dig out. Some anise and fennel perhaps? I’m really not sure what spices they have put in this one, but they are most definitely present. Ends with clear traces of alcohol - that continues into a warming spicy and alcoholic aftertaste. Yummy as a late night warmer in my attempt to stay awake to be able to buy tickets for Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2013. Wonder if I will be able to keep the good old eyes open after finishing this.. 02.11.2012

Bottle @ home. Delayed gusher! The pour’s a slightly thin reddish brown with a large head that quickly fades. The pour’s bruised yellow apple. Fruity esters. Sweet bubblegum. Candied cherry, rich caramel. Spices, some nutmeg. Rich aromas. The taste is apple cider. Candied plums and other dark fruits. Hot raisin-steeped booze. Caramelized brown sugar. Toffee, spiced christmas cake. Light herbal accents. Somewhat boozy on the finish. This is a sipper indeed. Somewhat thin profile, strong carbonation. Overall, a pretty nice christmas beer. It’s very much as you’d expect.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 erickok (2282) - Tours, FRANCE - JAN 20, 2013
Copper brown body and yellowish kaki head. Lots of spices, cinnamon, red apple, clove and sweet crusty bread. Lively carbonation, sweet start but more roasted malts and bitterness later on. Warming body, ending not too long but rich in flavour. Very refined and just enough spice. Tasty for for sure, although it could even be richer. (33cl bottle from Cave Gambrinus)
