This beer has a generous head - compact and firm. Its slightly brown colour is the result of the roasted barley. It has a dark ruby brown colour and a very intense aroma. The aromatic herbs and spices used greatly enhance its delicious smell. This beer is full-bodied with a smoothness that is the result of the synergy of caramelized malts, carefully controlled fermentation and long cold storage. St Feuillien Cuve de Nol has a very subtle bitterness that is the dominant flavour in this harmonious ale that strikes a perfect balance between all the different ingredients.

750 ml bottle. Aroma of medium dark fruit and caramel. Brilliant ruby color with a decent tan head. Full bodied with creamy carbonation. Starts with a bit of heat, followed by dark berry, strong caramel, and some bitter at all points. Its got a spicy fresh impression. Its dry and sweet all at once. Perhaps a bit woody in the end. The bottle claims to be full of sumptious, exciting contrasts. Right on.

UPDATED: MAR 10, 2008 Keg (Poirotti Eira, Helsinki) Rich ruby red. Thin light persistent head. Initially a cnadifloss sweet aroma with a sharp mint component, and a slight hint of banana too. Soft lightly carbonated, feels lovely in the mouth. Sweet malty body. Finally it clicks! The aroma has caroway in it, its almost like some aquavits. Classic strong Belgian beer. Rerate of (6-4-8-4-13=3.4) 330ml bottle (Gallows Bird, Espoo, Winter Ales 2004) Distinctly belgian. Brown, with a fluffy head. Flowery but rich malty aroma. Brown (brun) malty taste.

UPDATED: DEC 16, 2008 Cloudy red, brown beer with a big bubbly, off-white, short lived head. Malt, orange and berries in the aroma. Has a pleasant bitterness in the flavour with a litte metallic note, and it has way too much carbonation for my taste. One year old: More pleasant carbonation? Same aroma. Fruity, toffee, spicy flavour, in excellent balance.

Keg at the Draft House, Tower Bridge. it pours red-amber, with a quickly dissipating white head. The nose is jammy fruit, icing sugar, red berry and alcohol. The taste is caramel, jammy fruit, red berry (particularly strawberry), candy floss, metal, spice and alcohol warmth. Medium body and lively carbonation. A very nice Christmas brew.
