UPDATED: DEC 29, 2007 Bottle... This beer rocks!... co-rated with scraff... The nose is of Italian spice cake and coffee. The flavor is well-balanced with lots of spice and malt.
Nice, oily mouthfeel with fizzy carbonation. Lengthy, bitter, astringent, bone-dry finish. Nice, world class brew!

Rich ruby red. Thin light persistent head. Initially a cnadifloss sweet aroma with a sharp mint component, and a slight hint of banana too. Soft lightly carbonated, feels lovely in the mouth. Sweet malty body. Finally it clicks! The aroma has caroway in it, it’s almost like some aquavits. Classic strong Belgian beer.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
(33cl bottle, best before Oct. 2007, thanks Edo !) Hazy, reddish brown coloured hue with a big, moderately lacing beige foamy head. Sweet, dark malty and roasted aroma, slightly vinous with caramel, anis, chocolate and a touch of alcohol. Sweet flavour, slightly sugary with a balancing bitterness, full bodied with a soft carbonation. Dark and roasty malty taste with caramel and liquorice and a well-embedded fruit-character (raisins); sweet and slightly bitter, malt-accented, spicy and lingering finish with a non-disturbing alcohol presence. Heart-warming stuff.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: AUG 18, 2010 Bottled. A dark purply-brown coloured beer with a small tan coloured head. Big aroma of dried fruit together with a little oakiness, rum and brown sugar. The taste is yeasty and very fruity. Lots of different berries compete with candy sugar and alcohol. Quite complex and very tasty but the initial joy can give way to a little cloyingness.Score 3.5
Subsequent ratings scored 3.5 and 3.6. Score unchanged

Had the bomber with friends. It was a close runner-up among four good xmas beers on March 25. Nicely carbonated, dark brown, nutmeg and some cinammon, maybe a tad of cardomon and vanilla. Wonderful with chocaloate. A crowd pleaser find from Cellars new store in Fort Lauderdale.
