3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tap pour - ruddy brown pour with a thin off-white head. Aroma is bold and yeasty...lots of spice, malt, bread, hint of licorice. Flavor is similarly yeasty and bready, slight hint of bittering hops, fruit (dark), anise note, and a good dose of spice...pretty intense stuff. Palate is medium bodied and the alcohol was quite evident in this brew...somewhat chewy. Good brew overall, though didn’t feel right drinking this with warm temps outside!

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Brown-reddish colour, with huge head that leaves a good lace and crown. Smell of dark fruits, spices, nutmeg licorice, cinnamon and almonds. Medium body, good carbonation. Taste is similar to the smell: spices, licorice, almonds, dark fruits.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a deep orange/amber with a large tan head. Aroma is of raisin, caramel, lots of brown sugar. Flavor repeats the aromas but with the addition of Belgian yeast, heavy cream, some biscuit flavors. Ashy/sweet finish. Full mouthfeel/viscosity, medium carbonation. A very enjoyable Christmas ale from St. Feuillien, as anticipated. Overall, very good to excellent.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours opaque ruby brown brimmed by a frothy and dense tan head.
The aroma... Rich maltiness and caramel malt, strident spiciness, perhaps from the yeast. Lightly fruity almost like tart apples.. Some hops seem to be present in the nose. Crazy.
Flavor is very malty, fruity malt and caramel malt, considerable spice, some bitterness, tastes like hops but may be a product of the spice as this style usually doesn’t display hops lightly sticky sweet finish and aftertaste.
That is one tasty abbey ale. Good stuff.

UPDATED: FEB 11, 2011 Bottle 2008, exp 19.09.09.
Pours a nice mahogany colour with a tan head.
Pipe dates, nuts, caramel and a hint of alcohol in the aroma.
Flavour is very similar with bitter notes and a nice balance. No signs of oxidation.
This was much better than a fresh bottle.

Ruby-brown with tanned head. Aroma is sosdark malts, spices, dark fruits. Taste is dark malts, dark fruits, sweet caramel, some alcohol and bitterness in the end, nice balanced. I’ve had it way sweeter. Let it in the cellar for a year!

God og behagelig juleøl. Tilpas med krydderier. God smag, men med en anelse for meget alkohol.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Exhuberant light brown head on top of a ruby red/brown body. This beer has a strong taste, with fruits and nuts, but also bitterness in the taste. What’s more, I could distinctly feel the alcohol in this brew, which is never very nice. I’d say it’s a half-failure as a Chisrtmas ale.
