---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Large frothy sustained off-white head over a clear nut-brown-red beer. Medium plus aroma intense offering of banana, rose hip, sweet malt with some herby hay and faint sourness. Medium carbonation, medium bodied, a little oily on the palate with bitterness dominating other flavours that include bread, anise or such spices, discreet fruit, hollow midpalate. The bitterness feels a little crude and impure, something faint metallic, finish a bit short, otherwise it’s an ok beer with useful weight and refreshing qualities.

Benzai (6387) - Oirschot, THE NETHERLANDS, NETHERLANDS - NOV 19, 2013
Bottle @ home shared with Dutchdrebus. Clear reddish color, small white head. Aroma is a bit weird. Hard to describe: lightly malts, toffee, toasted malts, slightly leaves. Taste toasted malts, slightly leaves, a herbal bitterness and again something weird I can’t put my finger on. Medium body and carbonation. .

Bottle @ Benzai during Ned - Col. Slightly hazy orange to amber colour with a medium to big sized off-white head. Smells herbs, malts, spices, slightly yeasty, slightly minty. Tastes some apricot, tropical fruits, malts, some iron, slightly hoppy. Nice beer! Medium body, soft carbo.

Bottled 6.5%, BB 22.01.15, large sample. Slight hazy amber color, medium lasting off-white head. Aroma of peppery belgian yeast quite typical of st feuillien, hint of licorice and anise, slight flowery hop. Bit dry taste, bit sweet, bit bitter, slight metallic hint. The peppery belgian yeast together with some darker malts seems to give a slight metallic tart finish. Not my kind of beer.

Merci St Feuillen....

Cunningham (4000) - Halden, NORWAY - JUL 11, 2013

Appearance: I do not know if I have ever seen such a good looking beer as this one! Clear (or hazy with bottom sediments) deep orange brownish (or orange red amber – difficult to describe) color with a fine white head that leaves a fine lacing. Well probably it had a little cognac look a like color.
Aroma: Caramel malty, some yeast and a bit spicy.
Palate: Medium + body. Mild round sweetness, and a moderate bitterness. Average to soft carbonation.
Taste: A bit sweet malty, mild fruity, yeast and some spices. Well hidden alcohol.
Overall impression: A fine and very well balanced Belgian strong ale. Fresh and tasty. You just want more. And god damn good looking as well!
Personal stats: Bottle from Vinmonopolet Nettorder, Norway.

Bottle shared with ClubGonzo. Has a clear orange amber colour, with a light beige medium head. There is a lot of anise in the aroma along with other spices, a little hay and caramel, and Belgian yeast in the background. The taste is similar with the addition of citrus, hops and more Belgian yeast. Mouth feel is smooth and rich, with a light to medium bitterness. The beer is complex enough and has a nice balance and is sweet and spicy.
