UPDATED: NOV 14, 2005 (on tap) So what is it with belgian strong ale, when it´s a bad brew? It´s brown, smells sour and sometimes even like urin and has a malty sweetnes in the taste. This particular brew fits all the above. Holding a mere 7.5% alc. the alcohol is too dominatn in both taste and flavor. I´d say; "don´t beleive the hype" on this one. RERATED: After 18 months the has gone over the top. Still a potent brew, but has fainted somewhat in dimensions. Also has gotten a solid taste of cork. Mostly a carameld/alcoholic experience, better have at easter at leave it at that.

Orange and hazy beer. Makes a big head but it disappears quickly. Aromas of pears, anise and Belgian yeast. A bit too sugary sweet and could use more bitter hops.

Huge lasting deep offwhite head. Clear amber body with strong carbonation. Fruity herbal licorice aroma with coriander notes. Dryish dense earthy herbal licorice taste with spicy coriander notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, soft mouthfeel. Dryish aftertaste is like the main taste, maybe a bit more metal. Decent, but a bit dense and harsh. (0.33l bottle, wine monopoly.)

Bottle. Pours a brown beer with a nice, almost creamy white head on top. Aroma is spicey with some mild, fruity yeasty notes. Flavor is quite rich and full. Malty sweet with a typical yeasty tart finish. Well carbonated, decent mouthfeel but a sort finish. Quite a surprise!

0.33l bottle (this bottle says 6.5%). This is a clear deep caramel-brown colored beer with a big good looking slightly fluffy off-white head. It smells a bit different this. Hard to describe, but I get references to pine and gin. Also, it’s floral and typical Belgian. Lots of herbs. I like it. On the mouthfeel it’s slick oily and the carbonation level is about average. Spruce, wild forest, herbs and again gin in the taste. Not to much bitterness, but it feels herbal and the caramel is noticeable. Nice yeasty flavors in the finish. Is this a Easter brew? If it is, I can fully support drinking this outside in the steaking sun after a long day on the skies. 16.03.2013
