3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 CaptainCougar (7093) - Columbia, Maryland, USA - JAN 30, 2011
Bottle: Pours a slightly hazy bright golden with a huge pillowy white head. Has a unique piny hop and rye nose with some orange zest, lavender and thyme. Starts with pretty good fullness and lightly sweet biscuity malt with a touch of black pepper and malted rye before a slightly drier well-spiced finish. Definitely has some rye bread character and a saison profile. An enjoyable brew.
3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 Sammy (7041) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 14, 2012
Enormous head. Spicy aroma. The taste is spicy and yeasty, which gives it a sweet spicy balance. Pepper, cardamon, rye, orange citrus,. A bit of funk. Most pleasant, nicely hopped, a little aging did not hurt it. Excellent drinkability, great with fish.

UPDATED: MAY 14, 2011 My Bottom Line:
This fluffiest of Belgian Strong Ales is the setting for an intricate flavor display where doughy, bready yeast, herbal hop resins, citrusy spices and cushiony pils malts coalesce. Elegant, very drinkable for its size, complex and inspiring.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sturdy tower of foam protects the hazy gold.
-Light alcohol warmth greets the palate upon the first sips, but is quickly forgotten once the mellow hop bitterness starts to build on the tongue.
-Subtle bubblegummy phenols add complexity
-The aroma is spicier than the flavor profile, which is more in tune with a classic, albeit fruitier, Tripel; the citrusy character of these spices is redolent of ginger and citrusy thyme varieties.
-All flavors are so well integrated into one another that they almost indistinguishable. An amazing display of cohesion and restraint from the brewer.
-I would never have guessed that Amarillo was used. These American hops were used parsimoniously, which I appreciate. Other more noble varieties seem to be at play as well.
-A second bottle proved to be very good, but not as divine as the first. Mouthfeel was overly prickly. The yeast pour did add some cohesion to the flavor profile, but it wasn’t world-class like the first bottle I had.
Bottles.

A: The pour is a hazy pale yellow color with a huge white head.
S: The nose is of sweet light fruits such as apples and pears, grass, and light malty sweetness. There is a touch of metal in there too, for some reason, along with subtle yeast esters providing some spice.
T: Sweet and bready malts with plenty of green apples, sweet pears, and floral honey-like notes. There are some nice grassy hop notes as well.
M: The body is on the light end of medium with a very lively carbonation.
D: Like pretty much everything else Green Flash does, this was a winner. Very nice and easy to drink (especially for such a high ABV beer).

750 cc from Capone’s. Pours clear canary with a champagne-level of carbonation and a huge white clingy head. Nose is pale malty, white winey fruit, yeasty spice, hops. Tastes malty, champagny, very carbonated, with hopcitrus, pinot grigio white winey notes, spicy yeasty notes, and a complex palate. Gets a tad cloying late, but that’s a minor beef.

Thanks to Blake for bringing this bottle over like 5 times! Opened with about the loudest pop I’ve ever heard, but it didn’t gush. Poured hazy medium golden with a fluffy white head. The aroma picked up lemon zest, cloves, and ginger over soft pale and bready malts.. warmer honey and peppery alcohol on the back-end.. enjoyed it. The flavor found more honey and lesser bready malts at the core, cloves, lots of catty Amarillo, and white pepper laced throughout.. warm on the finish. Medium-bodied and very well carbonated on the palate.. just too much carbo.. overall a tasty brew, but heavy-handed.
