JoeinUccle (624), Brussels, Belgium Apr 12, 2008 Apparently Poechenellekelder in Brussels got the first keg of this. The folks there told us it was a new one from St. Feuillien. Looks really nice in the tulip, a dark mahogany with a tall, creamy beige head--almost looks nitrogenated. Pleasant nose of dark fruits, caramelized in burnt brown sugar, touch of rum. Sweet candied flavor, cloying even, rolling through a light bitterness. Very soft carbonation, a bit wet, alcohol shows through a little (which is fine with me, actually). The aromatics are spot-on, but less sweetness and some balance from the hops would have been nicer for my own tastes.
beastiefan2k (1065), Hicksville, New York, USA May 26, 2008 This was on my "beers to find" list while and Belgium but one I thought I would not come by since its tap only (at the moment at least). But I was highly surprised when this was one of the only interesting things on tap at Delirium Bar. Pours a clear dark brown color with a large head. Aroma is slightly astringent Belgian sweetness with a some muddy/wet leaves and earthiness. Basically a slightly underwhelming Scotch ale with some Belgian sweetness. Taste is similar. The Scotch part was a bit astringent and the Belgian part was a bit too syrup-sweet. But all in all its still pretty good and drinkable. I always like Belgian interpretations of the style even though this one missed the mark a bit. Draft @ Deleiium Bar, tulip glass, on 5/17/08.
