COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
St-Feuillien’s Saison is what the Belgians call a beer of the terroir, a traditional farmhouse ale with all the rich savour of the fertile land of southern Belgium. Saison, a warm golden blonde beer, is a top-fermented classique. Thanks to secondary fermentation in the bottle, Saison has an unmistakable flavour full of rich nuances and a slight tang.Judge for yourself. 750s and 20L kegs only. In first instance, for export to the USA only.

Top: mild gusher, medium top, average lifespan, fragmental lace.
Base: cloudy amber gold.
Palate : medium lighter body, bit frisky.

750 ml bottle into signature chalice, best before 4/3/2014. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy deep gold color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of lemon zest, pear, apple, orange peel, light banana, pepper, clove, herbal, floral, grass, honey, bread, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast, earthy hops, and pale malt notes; with good strength. Taste of lemon zest, pear, apple, orange peel, light banana, pepper, clove, herbal, floral, grass, honey, bread, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Good amount of earthy herbal/yeast spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon zest, pear, apple, orange peel, light banana, pepper, clove, herbal, floral, grass, honey, bread, and herbal/yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, earthy hops, and pale malt flavors; with a great malt/yeast flavor balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium bodied; with a very smooth, crisp, and lightly prickly mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent saison. All around great balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast, earthy hops, and pale malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

330 mL bottle from the LCBO, served in a stem glass. Pours hazy orange-amber with a moderate off-white head that fades to a thin cover and leaves a small amount of fine lace. The nose has notes of grass, orange, grape and coriander, along with yeast and earth. The flavour is slightly dry and moderately bitter throughout with pale, slightly grainy malts paired up with noble hops, earth, delicate ginger, coriander and Belgian yeast. The finish is long, moderately bitter and somewhat ginger-spicy. On the palate it is medium in body with a slightly dry texture and average carbonation. Overall, a decent hoppy-spicy saison. Not the most complex, but very respectable. 2014-05-09

Pours from the can a cloudy orange. The head fades quickly to just a bit around the rim. Nice aroma of yeast, orange and a bit of white grape. Those follow to taste. You get just a touch of barnyard funk as it warms a bit. It’s nice hopped; a bit moreso than other saisons. Nice balance. Medium light mouth with just a touch of carbonation. A nice, solid farmhouse ale to try every now and again.

330ml bottle from LCBO. Toronto, ON. 7% alc. Pours an opaque medium amber colour with one finger of white foamy head which has a lasting retention. It has a complex aroma but Belgian malt are pronounced with some fruity notes and some mandarine. Taste is sweet in the beginning which is followed by a well balanced hoppy taste. Dry finish. Light body with lively carbonation. Overall: Most Saisons are too bitter for me but St. Feuillien found the perfect balance between the Belgian sweetness and the Sasion bitterness. This farmhouse ale is one of my favorite beers of all time.
