3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: JUN 9, 2012 A: Golden amber body. Massive, fluffy white head. Good retention and nice lacing.
S: A subtle saison.... Slightly tart, with field fresh aromas. Slightly spiced with clove and coriander notes.
T: As evident in the nose, this is a subdued saison. Slight farmhouse funk, with a slightly grassy, spicy bite. Not as bold and as assertive as the top tier.... perhaps with a bit of age this new saison will develop as subsequent batches are produced.
M: Smooth. Well carbonated. Nice light-medium body.
O: A bit prohibitive at the price when one can get superior saisons for the same amount, but for fans of the style this is one worth exploring.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
(Old BA rate - bottle)
Pours a pretty hazy lighter orange color; nice generous finger of soapy white head that holds really well. Belgian yeastiness; some citrus fruit; hint of spiciness; some flowery hops in the aroma. Yeasty at first; some fruitiness that tends to be a little acidic and citrusy; some mineral tones; bit of hop kiss at the end. Lighter and a little fluffy; pretty aggressive tiny carbonation. Nice drinking; some good flavors, and glad that this didn’t lean to the sweeter side

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
750ml bottle (Gallows Bird, Espoo)
7 Beautiful belgian aroma, yeasty and with loads of dry bitter noble hopping.
4 rich amber, large head that settles to a ring.
7 Yeasty, bready retronasals. Classic belgian ale, quite blonde, but fuller and fresher. Quite spicy and even peppery in places.
4 crisp carbonation. tingly. Finish is very bitter, throbbingly so, but sweetens and softens out to fresh green buddy hops.
13 as expected, the yeast cloudes it nicely, then softens the taste to being more bready. Never loses the hoppiness.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
750ml caged&corked bottle. Foams up after opening, before pouring or agitating. Pours a deep hazy gold with touches of light brown/tan. The white fluffy head pours up big but dies down quickly to a medium-thin persistent dusting. The aroma is a mesmerizing blend of musty and fruity, yeasty and bready with touches of grassy hops. A well-balanced, slightly funky, and beautiful aroma. The flavor starts malty and bready with touches of caramel sweetness, a subtle citrus quality, herbal floral notes (like chamomile and hibiscus), and a slight dry bitterness. The finish is dry and well-balanced with notes of herbal and earthy bitterness against a deep, bready, somewhat yeasty malt character. There is some ethanol character in the finish that strengthens as the beer warms. The mouthfeel is medium bodied but quite pleasant thanks to a quite lovely level carbonation that drapes the tongue in creamy little bubbles. Minor astringency towards the back as it warms, from the ethanol. Overall, a lovely saison. The alcohol flavor is a touch strong considering the brew’s modest strength, but it is still a very tasty brew.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Tap. Slightly hazy, orangish color, small white head; aroma is citrusy and sweet fruity, warming up earthiness and almost light buttery notes come up; flavor is very fruity, both in sweet and citrusy crisp form, delicate malty and quite hop bitter with light grasy notes in the background - beautifully balanced; body is medium, and so is the carbonation, but the overall impression is still quite smooth.
