St-Feuillien’s Saison is what the Belgians call a beer of the terroir, a traditional farmhouse ale with all the rich savour of the fertile land of southern Belgium. Saison, a warm golden blonde beer, is a top-fermented classique. Thanks to secondary fermentation in the bottle, Saison has an unmistakable flavour full of rich nuances and a slight tang.Judge for yourself. 750s and 20L kegs only. In first instance, for export to the USA only.

Golden copper with a large bubbly white head that leaves nice lacing as it fades. Aroma is of yeast and fruit; apples, musty basement, lemons, flowers, caramel. The taste is very yeasty at first with the farmhouse and basement flavors coming through and ends with light fruits and some citrus.

UPDATED: APR 23, 2012 Hazy golden beer, fluffy off-white head. Aroma of yeast, quite malty with a good nose of hops. Rather spicy. Flavour is sweet malty, rather bitter, dry, yeast and hops spiciness. Very dry and rather astringent finish. Nice.

Update 23 April 2012: Draught version Very similar to the bottled version, still quite bitter, but with some biscuit in the nose.

Serving: 750 ml. bottle from State Line Liquors. It pours a hazy gold with a large, frothy, white head. The nose is on the lighter side with notes of yeast, citrus, and fruit. The flavor is crisp with a nice yeastiness, some citrus peel, and pepper. Light in body with abundant carbonation leading to a dry, bitter finish. Really a nice Saison and perfect for the hot summer months.

Draft at Hop Leaf. Pours a bright and cloudy gold with a stiff white head of foam. Nose is fully of bananas, some light phenols as well. A bit soft and lacking the funk that I like in a saison. Some pils malt dough character comes across as well. on taste, quite spicy and more of the banana coming through, along with a sharp alcohol note. Pils malt dominates as well. Could use more hopping, imo, to really make it come together. Still, a very good saison.

Very light saison, the finish is really the part that makes you do ah...saison. Has the characteristics of a great saison, juist very light.

Draft at the Birch. Golden, shiny and a bit cloudy. The aroma might seem like dish soap to a smart ass, but is wonderfully floral. Wow, this has an enormous palette full of rich tropical fruit flavors. Brilliant beer for a warm summer day. (#4111, 5/21/2011)
