COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
St-Feuillien’s Saison is what the Belgians call a beer of the terroir, a traditional farmhouse ale with all the rich savour of the fertile land of southern Belgium. Saison, a warm golden blonde beer, is a top-fermented classique. Thanks to secondary fermentation in the bottle, Saison has an unmistakable flavour full of rich nuances and a slight tang.Judge for yourself. 750s and 20L kegs only. In first instance, for export to the USA only.

Bottle 0.33l. Pours hazy amber with long lasting white head. Strong carbonation. Aroma is yeasty, spicy, earthy. Aroma is light sweet, medium bitter, fruity notes, medium dry. Creamy mouthfeel with a good bitterness and a sugary aftertaste. A bit less sugar and this would be close to perfect.

Bottle at the Trappiste, Brugge, 17/10/14. Lightly hazed golden with a decent off white head. Nose is orange peel, bitter fruits, spice, apricot, straw. Taste comprises tangy mandarin, grassy, dried apricot, citric peel, light spice, earthy wash. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Solid saison in the classic mould, all boxes ticked, refreshment delivered.

Bottle from ;t Drankenhuys, 12-06-2014. Golden blonde colour with a dense white head. Fine bubbles. Aroma is herbal, citrus, fruity and fresh. Tastes smoothly, fresh, nice balance, slightly bitter, very nice! Somewhat herbal spiciness, and somewhat dry. aroma also has sweet fruit, d ried apricots or something like that.

A very mediocre saison. Quite fruity on the nose with some lemon or pear. Slightly creamy in the mouth but not very much and it honestly is a bit thin.

Saison since 2009 mainly intended for export to the States (like, rather frustratingly, too many other great Belgians). Cream white, moussy head, orangey amber colour, hazy. Aroma of walnuts, caramel, pear, unripe peach, hay, dough and some DMS (cooked vegetable). Dry fruity taste, nutty and somewhat caramelly malts, spicy yeastiness, finish light bitter hops. More an ordinary amber than a real saison to me so stylewise not the most accomplished brew, but enjoyable nonetheless.

11.20oz can. Pours a lightly hazed straw color with a small white head. Aromas of light lemon and sweet corn. Taste is honestly like a macro lager made with Belgian yeast. No. Fuck you.

Yellow orange beer with big white head. Aroma has tartness, grass and Belgian yeast. Flavor has Belgian yeast, honeyish sweetness and fruitiness. Quite full palate with strong carbonation. Quite strong bitterness on the finish with yeast, honey and some alcohol. Decent stuff.

BB 31OCT2014. Poured a clouded honey brown colour with a few millimetres of white foam that diminished to a collar and laced poorly. Carbonation medium. Aroma of malt with a hint of yeast. Taste initially of sour malt then semi-sweetness; not too bitter but has a touch of spices. Light body. Tart with a dry finish.

Can, 11.2 oz. Nose of slight dark (specialty) malt and faint roast, cookie dough; pour, however, is hazy olden orange with a soapy white head and a little lace. Taste sweet but only lightly, not much bitterness at all, good clean Pils malt up the middle with creamy vanilla-accented Belgian yeast wrapping all around that bullet. Soft and very smooth, just a touch of tang in the rounded medium-full body. Faint citrus and grassy hops. Not much in the way of notable herbs here – I think the biggest for me is rose hips – but there are varying shades of orange peel and minerally yeast contribution. No heat or booze, clean, quaffable, a worthy repeater.
