FatPhil (3443), Espoo, Finland Mar 19, 2008 330ml bottle (Cracked Kettle, Amsterdam)
Slightly hazy gold, persistent creamy head. Aroma packed with dry and sharp hoppiness but caressed with a another delicious spicy tang, and banana hints, from the yeast. Soft but sharp palate - sharpness both from the pleasant carbonation and from immediately bitter hops. The yeasty taste accompanies the malt to provide notes which are almost liquoricey, and which waft peppery fumes up the nose. Alcohol aids that wafting, but doesn’t impose itself. Powerful, but oh-so-subtle; complex and ever changing, ever developing. At risk of redundancy - great stuff, my kind of tripel, excellent! Well done! plovmand (1588), Helsinge, Denmark Mar 18, 2008 Bottle. BBF 06/2005. Pours clear golden with huge pearly head that lasts throughout the life of the beer in my tulip glass. Spicy aroma and dried fruits with notes of belgian yeast.
Great carbonation. Spicy flavour with notes of fruits like banana, peaches and mango. Bitter finish. Great stuff. ante (2904), Stockholm, Sweden Mar 12, 2008 Bottled at Monks Café, Stockholm. Pours out in a hazy golden colour with a rich, eruptive, firm white foam. Spicy and yeasty aroma leading to the drier side of the spectrum of fresh Seville oranges, orange-peels, immature Kaiser pears, white pepper, grassy noble hops and all-spice with a sweet firm undertone of English marmalade too balance things out. Full, spicy, fruity and fresh flavour of orange-peels, fresh-baked white bread, white pepper and grassy herbal hops. Medium-bodied with a rather sparkling mouthfeel. Long dryish hoppy finish (for the style) of grass, orange-peels and yeast. My kind of Tripel. chocolatokeki (1), California, USA does not count Mar 10, 2008 Not a pretender; instead a defender of the faith of textbook brewing consistency. A great "everyday" Belgian Ale, exhibiting food-friendly, non-obtrusive flavors thanks to secondary bottle fermentation. Yeast is present, yet not dominant, a great introductory Belgian to turn on the uninitiated. Exceptional even-keeled mouthfeel as it cascades down the palate with conviction. An ale begging to be served with food ranging from game birds to cheese and fruit plates. RCL (1443), Waltham, Massachusetts, USA Mar 8, 2008 This is just superb. Coriander and yellow fruits swirl in the yeasty rich flavor. Subtle spiciness and lightly sweet. Excellent. BlackOut (43), East End, England Feb 27, 2008 Big and slowly shrinking head, misty amber yellow. Typical belgian ale taste, great to have it again. Well balanced, sweet and sour mixed together, spicy flavours and lots of alcohol that I couldnt taste. Well done! johndavidj99 (123), Township, Maine, USA Feb 22, 2008 Massive sturdy head on top of a golden or "pale amber" beer. ...Anticipation before the head allows me to drink it...Yeasty/spicy nose. A decent, easy to drink, balanced beer. It has a complexity about it. Spices and fruits are dominant in the taste. Too spicy for me. legion242 (1572), Richardson, Texas, USA Feb 19, 2008 What a huge disappointment. Started out well enough with a decent nose and nice head. But the flavor had some strange perfumey elements going on through the whole bottle that was very distracting.
