St. George American Brown Ale is the typical American take on a classic English style. This beer exhibits an assertive American hop character overlying a malty richness which lends it a slightly sweet, toasty flavor and aroma. Dark brown in color with a thick tan head our American Brown Ale is a brewed from a full malt base and is well balanced by a spicy/citrusy hop bitterness.

A winner. Root beer pour with decent carbonation. A wonderful malty character. Sweet and nutty. And yet they manage to slip in a nice hop snap. Easy to drink.

Very dark color for a brown ale. The pour produced no head despite my best efforts. It had a pronounced and delightful aroma, more typical of a stout. Unlike a stout however, it was not heavy or thick. It bears quite a resemblance to Sam Adams Black Lager, which I rated recently. The flavor is much more smoky and finishes with a nice hop kiss. I was very pleased. Brewed locally, I can get it in the local Farm Fresh grocery store.

Amber brown color. Moldy cheese and maple malt nose. Slick and oily up front, more coarse grains in the finish. Flavor of maple, bacon fact, light wood. An OK brown ale, nothing spectacular.

Deep brown appearance; small, off whte head and light lacing. Roasted malt aroma, some dark fruit, and layers of chocolate. Chocolate malt taste with modest sweetness, some characteristics of pine nuts; hops more noticable as it finishes. Medium bodied, nicely carbonated mouthfeel. Dry nutty aftertaste.

I found this to be a malt forward chocolaty brew, which is not what I was expecting based on the beer’s description. The hops were faint, but nonetheless the beer is enjoyable and well crafted.

Bottle. Pours blackish ruby with sizeable beige head. The aroma is caramel, a hint of licorice, a hint of molasses. The flavor is caramel and burnt sugar, mixed bar nuts, and light syrup. The finish is clean and sweet, with a touch of earthy hops into the aftertaste. Not bad, really.

12oz bottle acquired in trade with The_Beer_God (thanks!). Poured a deep reddish brown color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of toasted malts, chocolate and nutty. Tastes of toasted malts, nuts, light caramel, with a bitter chocolate finish.

Nice dark brown body. Aroma was a little metallic. Nutty, very similar to their porter but without the chocolaty taste.

Bottle. A very nutty malt aroma. Dark opaque brown with slight head. Smoke and creamy nutty malt flavor with moderate lemon hops finish. A good brew.
