COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
St. George Lager is a sublime balance of subtle maltiness and lingering noble hoppiness. Based on a style of lager called Bavarian Helles, it is pale straw blond in color, but surprisingly full bodied and exhibiting only a low level of hops bitterness or aroma. Only the finest of traditional German Malt and Hops are used in this beer, which create the most delicate beer imaginable.

01-Jul-07 (12 oz bottle: Obtained in trade with gputty, thanks Geoff!) Very hazy for a lager, but the body is a bright golden color and the white head is tall and fluffy. Sweet, doughy nose lacks a balancing hop aroma but since the brewery identifies this as a Bavarian Helles, then the lack of hop aroma is appropriate. Sweet and doughy maltiness dominates the flavor with just a hint of hop bitterness in the background, again being true to style. Linear profile makes this a pretty simple and one-dimensional beer, but one that’s easy to drink. Medium-bodied with medium carbonation, the malty attack is smooth and creamy, but due to the lack of any hop bite, the beer isn’t especially refreshing on the palate. As the beer is consumed and the head settles to a thin layer, some patchy lacing remains on the glass. Overall, it’s not a beer I tend to enjoy, but the dominance of the smooth, sweet, malty flavor without any lingering bitterness could make this a good crossover beer for those trying the craft brew scene for the first time.

Bottle, from the Dragon Pack bought at Total Wine in Huntersville NC. Pours a ncie golden color with a light head and a touch of carbonation. Aroma is a touch of malt. Taste is clean, vigorous and quite surprising. This is what a lager should take like. Nice job!

When you call your beer simply "lager", you benefit from lowered expectations. At least with me, anyway. But this was pretty tasty - clean & crisp, no off flavors, nice bready base and a clean peppery finish. Nice beer for a hot day. At the 2007 Hickory Hops.

12oz bottle. Dull golden hue. Touch of caramel malt in the nose. Light but mildly crisp. All around bland. Meh?

Again with the interesting names. Good mainstream effort for the less complex beer palate (like my wife). Clean and crisp with enough malt and hop flavor to let you know someone put in a little effort.

It had a nice clear golden color, with no head. There was but a faint aroma of cereal grains. The taste was akin to putting a 9v battery to your tongue, stinging and flavorless. I bought it as part of the variety six pack from the brewer at my local grocer. I was impressed by the others in the pack, but this was clearly generic filler. Maybe I just don’t like lager.

Bottle. Really not that bad. Some nice crisp biscuit malts in the nose and in the flavor, some light butter or olive oil flavors but nothing terrible. Good frothy body, decent carbonation, nicely fresh and enjoyable.
