COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
St. George Porter weaves a complex tapestry of flavors in a black, ruby colored ale. A rich malt base, typical of St. George Ales, results in caramel and chocolate tones, classically balanced with English bittering and aromatic hops.

Columbia, SC. Green’s Discount Beverage, 12 oz bottle - part of a six pack mixer. Very dark brown - ruby red pour. Tight mocha head, decent lacing. Nice aromatic essence of coffee and dark chocolate. Flavor brings a molasses twinge sweetness with hints of chocolate and coffee and finishes with a salty blast. Thickish mouthfeel,

Aroma: Some roast, light hoppiness, some coffee, syrupy caramel aroma. Molasses aroma is kind of odd. Appearance: Low head retention, very dark ruber color. Flavor: Sudden rush of hoppiness and caramelly malty flavor. Same odd molasses flavor, pretty prominent in the finish. Palate: Medium bodied, no astringency, adequate carbonation. Overall: Ok, a little too caramelly, not enough roast. Molasses character that is evident is kind of off putting, and a strange soy sauce flavor also rears its ugly head.

Single bottle from the Dragon Pack, bought at Total Wine in Huntersville, NC. Pours a nice dark brown with a tan head. Malty chocolate tasting, and very nice to drink. Another good one from St. George.

Another good quaff from this brewery! Nicely nosed with great chocolate, caramel, coffee, dried cherry notes. Maltiness out the kazoo with a strong chocolate presense. Then out pops a hops hit that surprises your palate. Quite a touch.

This one seems like a typical porter...until you get to the aftertaste. The aftertaste is what characterizes this beer. Initially, it has a moderately strong roasted malt aroma, fairly complex, reminiscent of caramel and dried fruit...there is quite a bit of bite of hops, and then the aftertaste is a very strong, dry bitterness, that is muted just enough that it hovers right under the level of being unpleasantly bitter, so as to strike a perfect balance. This beer does exactly what an excellent porter should do--it not only fits within the style but it carves out a unique niche. I am impressed, and I am eager to try more beers from this brewery as well. My only criticism of this brew is that it acquired a flat, almost watery feel towards the bottom of the bottle, but the aroma remained outstanding.

12oz bottle. Opaque and dark brown. Fine layer of tan head. Anise and dried fruits in the nose. Medium bodied and sticky with a nice fruity zest. Seems like a higher gravity, but that was in comparison. Little too sweet and a touch thin.
