COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
St. George Porter weaves a complex tapestry of flavors in a black, ruby colored ale. A rich malt base, typical of St. George Ales, results in caramel and chocolate tones, classically balanced with English bittering and aromatic hops.

Bottle. Pours black as all hell with a smallish tan head. Seriously, no light gets through this. Heavy dark chocolate / baking chocolate aroma, with a bit of spent coffee grounds. Flavor is straight up chocolate coffee. Not a mocha or anything like that: straight up chocolate flavored coffee. Bit of hazelnut in there as well. Finishes with that sorta metallic hazelnut and coffee. Not super thick considering the rich flavor. This is very good. That’s all I really need to say. Good porter. Drink one. Like right now.

Bottle, July 2006. Deep red colour. Light roasty aroma. Full malt flavour. Smooth and creamy with powdery cocoa in evidence. Quite dry with a fairly light body. Very pleasant, although not the most muscular of porters, which denies it a higher rating for me (at least in this stout-like porter style). Still pretty good, without any obvious or major shortcomings.

Bottle from the_beer_god. Pours brown with a thin tan head. Smells of chocolate, nuts, sweet malt. Tastes of light chocolate, some earthy hops and breaddy with a light nutty finish.

12oz bottle. Black center with thin brown edges; fluffy, light tan head: good retention and lacing. Brown sugar and dried fruits in the nose (reminiscent of a doppelbock), with some roasted malt character. Light-to-medium mouthfeel; lively carbonation up-front: showing plenty of milk chocolate, marshmallow, and roasted malts. Medium finish shows charred malts and dark chocolate. Surprisingly good from a brewery I’ve never heard of before.

My last bottle from the variety 6pk I got while on vacation at OBX. Dark red brown color with a small brown head. Strong roasted coffee flavor with some chocolate aroma and taste. Medium body with a sweet light dry finish.

(bottle 12 oz) Black body with light brown, head. Despite seeming a little "fizzy" the head last and their is medium lacing in the glass. Aroma is malty with a hint of fruit, but not a strong aroma. Flavor up front is slightly sweet dark chocolate. It turns more to coffee and malt on the back, finishing dry and with only a mild hop bitterness. Full bodied. I might describe this as a "mild" porter - but that happens to be the kind of porter I like, so I thought it was very good.

(Bottle) Pours a dark brown body with a medium-sized brown head. Aroma of cocoa, roasted malt, and a hint of vinous. Flavor of roasted malt, hops, and chocolate.

Bottle. A very sweet caramel and nutty aroma. Dark opaque brown color with next to no head. Smoky creamy chocolate malt flavor - nice and strong with an ashy/astringent finish that is a bit rough. A tad bit harsher than many porters.
