COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
St. George Porter weaves a complex tapestry of flavors in a black, ruby colored ale. A rich malt base, typical of St. George Ales, results in caramel and chocolate tones, classically balanced with English bittering and aromatic hops.

Aug 2009: Brown 12 oz bottle flown over to me by a Virginia based BA. Poured into a Westmalle chalice glass, one of my favourite tasting glasses. Deep, dark browny/red body with (sadly) a small wisp of a tan half head which soon turned into a thin collar around the glass. Intense dark chocolate aroma, then dry roasted coffee and toasted chocolate malts. The taste copied the smells, only a drier hint to everything and the hops coming in to add a bitterness that bit into my tongue and cheeks. Well carbonated and a good richness considering its alcohol content isnít trying to rip your head off like some Porters attempt to do. All in all a very pleasant beer and glad it came my way.

Poured dark brown with a full brown head that dissipated slowly. Minimal aroma; a bit of sweet maltiness. Slightly smoky, somewhat bland flavor, with a dry end. A bit oily in mouthfeel. This is an ok beer, but is extremely undistinctive and unmemorable. Actually less like a porter than the St. George American Brown Ale in my opinion.

Strong malt aroma with a light amount of hops. Dark color with a medium brown head. Light sweet throughout with a moderate bitter finish.

Bottle. Rich aroma of chocolate, coffee, some malt caramel. Dark brown, clear, pours with a decent dark tan head. Medium body, creamy, carbonation is lively for a porter, finish is a bitter and good. Very positive

12 oz. bottle shared by Coopers Kid- thanks, Andy! Pours a deep, dark brown with amber highlights and a small beige ring for a head. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, banana bread, and toasted caramel. The flavor also has the unexpected banana bread- which doesnít by any means overwhelm- along with chocolate, toasted brown sugar, mild coffee, and some dark fruits. Medium-bodied, with low carbonation and a smooth, rich mouthfeel. Almost drinks like an imperial porter. I enjoyed this a lot and expect Andy to bring me some more from these guys!

Fresh 12oz bottle from the brewery. Nice looking, dark brown pour and a bubbly brown head. Nice lacing. Sweet chocolate in the aroma. Nice flavor too but maybe a little thin. The chocolate doesnít appear in the flavor until the finish.

Pours dark brownish black with nice lacing tan head. Aroma has notes of chocolate, roast, some earth, slight burnt caramel and toast notes. Taste is fairly nice with a relatively full body for the ABV, nice sweet toffee and caramel, some bitter roast and coffee, some slight cocoa powder, touch of earth and grass, finishing dry and bitter. Nice beer, very easy drinking yet still full flavored.

Poured into a white wine glass (thatís all that was available) at The Cheese Shop in Williamsburg. A: 3.5 S: 3.0 T: 3.5 M: 3.0 D: 3.0 Dark brown, nearly black. Just a touch of light brown head. Average retention and little lacing. Dry, lightly roasty nose. Taste has a good bit graininess as well, with more neutral malt sweetness than I was expecting, but still rather dry overall. Roasty toastiness, but not a ton of flavor overall. Lighter medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Could use more body. Good creaminess for how light it is. Better than some of their other beers, but still no treat.

I didnít really enjoy this porter at all. I thought it poured nice but was very watery with a little bit of roasted flavor.
