COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
St. George Porter weaves a complex tapestry of flavors in a black, ruby colored ale. A rich malt base, typical of St. George Ales, results in caramel and chocolate tones, classically balanced with English bittering and aromatic hops.

Bottle. Pours dark brown with a slight tan head that fades fast. Big toasty malt aroma with a hit of sweetness. Taste is a bit of chocolate, caramel, and coffee with toasted malt back that lingers on the tongue.

Pours from the 12 oz. bottle a very dark, cola-ish reddish brown with a large rocky beige head. Too dark to tell what kind of bubble action is occurring in the darkness. Aroma is of roasted, smoky malt. 1st sip brings to mind dark unsweetened chocolate and black coffee. Mouthfeel is on the light side. Overall, a tasty, refreshing Porter that I would not mind having again.

On draft in "Germany" within Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, VA. Very dark brown/black in complexion with slightly watery body. Not bad, but I was expecting a more flavorful porter.

Opaque dark mahogany with a rediculously foamy tan head. Medium body with very high carbonation.

Aroma: black roasted malt, sugury crystal malt, astringent harsh grassy character, dark chocolate.

Taste: Malt sweetness, roasted malt, grainy astringency.

Either a minor infection or a serious water chemistry problem. My bet is on the first -itís undrinkable.

12 ounce bottle. Served in a pint glass, the beer pours dark brown/black with a half inch tan head that stayed around for a while. Thereís also a good amount of lacing. The brew smells like roasted malt, bittersweet chocolate, coffee, and some caramel. It tastes like roasted malt, milk and bittersweet chocolate, caramel, cream, and a bit of burnt/charred malt. Mouthfeel/body is medium, itís creamy with a moderate amount of carbonation. I think this is a pretty good brew. One of my friends picked up a single bottle of this for me on a recent trip, and if it was available in my area I would certainly buy this beer again.

Aug 2009: Brown 12 oz bottle flown over to me by a Virginia based BA. Poured into a Westmalle chalice glass, one of my favourite tasting glasses. Deep, dark browny/red body with (sadly) a small wisp of a tan half head which soon turned into a thin collar around the glass. Intense dark chocolate aroma, then dry roasted coffee and toasted chocolate malts. The taste copied the smells, only a drier hint to everything and the hops coming in to add a bitterness that bit into my tongue and cheeks. Well carbonated and a good richness considering its alcohol content isnít trying to rip your head off like some Porters attempt to do. All in all a very pleasant beer and glad it came my way.

Poured dark brown with a full brown head that dissipated slowly. Minimal aroma; a bit of sweet maltiness. Slightly smoky, somewhat bland flavor, with a dry end. A bit oily in mouthfeel. This is an ok beer, but is extremely undistinctive and unmemorable. Actually less like a porter than the St. George American Brown Ale in my opinion.

Strong malt aroma with a light amount of hops. Dark color with a medium brown head. Light sweet throughout with a moderate bitter finish.

Bottle. Rich aroma of chocolate, coffee, some malt caramel. Dark brown, clear, pours with a decent dark tan head. Medium body, creamy, carbonation is lively for a porter, finish is a bitter and good. Very positive

12 oz. bottle shared by Coopers Kid- thanks, Andy! Pours a deep, dark brown with amber highlights and a small beige ring for a head. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, banana bread, and toasted caramel. The flavor also has the unexpected banana bread- which doesnít by any means overwhelm- along with chocolate, toasted brown sugar, mild coffee, and some dark fruits. Medium-bodied, with low carbonation and a smooth, rich mouthfeel. Almost drinks like an imperial porter. I enjoyed this a lot and expect Andy to bring me some more from these guys!
