COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
St. George Porter weaves a complex tapestry of flavors in a black, ruby colored ale. A rich malt base, typical of St. George Ales, results in caramel and chocolate tones, classically balanced with English bittering and aromatic hops.

12oz bottle. Pours deep brown, with a tan head. Strong cocoa aroma, caramel and raspberry aroma; very reminiscent of black forest cake. Roasted chocolate malt flavor, with some ash and hop bitterness at the finish. Body is a bit thin. Not bad.

12 oz bottle. Pours a dark brown with a finger and a half oatmeal-colored head. Strong aroma of mocha and toasted malts with notes of nuts a bit of sweetness, perhaps even citrus. Malty, chocolaty flavor with a strong, smoky finish. Not too heavy but full of flavor. An impressive bres.

Nice deep dark brown coloured body with a thinnish light brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, pit fruits, prunes, caramel and light brown sugar. Medium to Light-bodied; Strong assertive malts with a good caramel sweetness behind. Aftertaste shows some complexity, but pretty light - especially for the style; more caramel and sweetness comes out, but a bit of the bitterness from malt still remains. Overall, a good but not overwhelmingly good beer. I’ve preferred others from this brewery over this one. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Total Wine in McLean, Virginia, sampled on 23-January-2009 at home in Washington.

Pours opaque black, with mahogany translucent edging and a half inch head of beige. Retention is short lived and a placid surface quickly developes with zero lacework. Aromatics lead off with dark chocolate, roasted malt, espresso, and char. Hints of fudge, caramel, and brownie batter follow through. Medium bodied, crisp and a bit chewy. A bit on the low side of medium carbonation. Roasted malt, coffee beans, and bakers chocolate start the pallet. Embers and dry cocoa give a nod, followed by a bit of caramel. Finishes with a drying bitterness, mildly tannic char, and fading chocolate. A very nice Porter on the robust side of the tracks. It gets slightly thinner as the glass goes, and some additional carbonation would be good. Big ups to BA EriktheRed for a pretty sweet bonus brew!

pours very dark, but drinks very light. Has hints of coffee and chocolate, slightly carbonated and bitter after taste. A great winter beer, goes well with a meal.

Dark brown pour, very little head. Roasted malts, coffee slight chocolate. Slightly metallic. Lighter bodied than I would like, not the best finish. You could do a lot worse though.

From dkachur via trade. Thanks! The pour was clear, dark brown with ruby highlights. A short, off-white head formed and quickly collapsed, leaving little lacing. The aroma was roasted malt, sugars, chocolate and an earthy limestone or slate aroma. The flavor had thin chocolate, roasted malts and more of that earthy limestone dryness. The mouthfeel was thin to medium. Easy drinking.
