This beer was brought to me by a friend who had traveled out of state. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black color with a medium sized creamy dark brown head. The aroma was tangy, sour, malty and lightly roasty. The flavor was dry, roasty and lightly bitter with a hint of weak coffee, a touch of wood and a smoky undertone. The finish was dry, woody, smoky and roasty. Decent.

The porter is St. Georgeís best year-round offering. Itís a fine porter too, all the classic characteristics. Everything in balance with this one. It can be blended into a fine black and tan as well.

Bottle at home, extraíd in a trade. Pour is dark brown, almost black with a medium brown head and great lacing. Big roasty, coffee, light vanilla, graham crackers, bread, leather, and black licorice in the aroma. Taste is bready, grassy, chewy leather, light cocoa and espresso, a touch earthy, and grassy with a light roasted finish. Medium body with soft carbonation. Not bad, but could use a little sweetness and a touch more body, though I do appreciate the sessionable characteristics. Not bad.

Tap. Black color, tan head, lots of lacing. Very faint aroma, hints of milk chocolate? Hard to say. Flavor is much more pronounced. Reminiscent of a milk stout but dominated by roasty bitterness on the end.
