nvrstck (1), USA does not count Feb 29, 2008 Bottle. Fantastic! I love Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout and Rogue Shakespeare Stout and this may just top them both. I live close to St Georges in VA and I hope they have more kegs of this left, so I can get one this week. I didn’t know I could find such a great beer so close to home. pinkzambia (884), Boise, Idaho, USA Jan 5, 2006 Bottle: Now this is a smooth and powerfully seductive stout. The color is a used motor oil black/brown with a small brown head ring. It is thick, but not syrupy. It’s thickness translates into smoothness, like butta (butter for you non-vaklempt people). After the aromas of cocoa, the immediate taset is chocolate with a charcoal finish. But after a while, as the others have said below, I began to pick up on dried fruits like prunes and raisins. As for the hops -- who needs them in a stout like this? What I like about this beer for its style is that is doesn’t go overboard. It avoids going kamikaze on the dark chocolate/coffee/charcoal kick and gives you just enough to get the idea. Then this is complimented by the prune/raisin flavors which I have not encountered before in a Russian Imperial Stout. Yum. Thanks Indiana_Red for sharing this true beer in the new year! radagast83 (1049), Springfield, Virginia, USA Mar 18, 2007 Bottle, can be found at World Market locations. Pours nearly dark, pitch black. Roasted malts, with choclate and smokey flavors. Very smooth and has a nice sweet and dry finish. JamesD (156), Centreville, Virginia, USA Jan 28, 2007 I got this in a St George Sampler pack and I was blown away. It poured black as asphalt with a dark brown head. Tthe flavor was rich and mellow, with strong notes of dark chocolate and coffee. Powerful, yet smooth and inviting, beaconing you to take another sip. Definitely worth trying if you’re a fan of stouts. Indiana_Red (1462), Boise, Idaho, USA Jan 5, 2006 Bottle Pours a deep inky black with noticeably high viscosity. Dark tan head that is creamy and full. Spotty lacing. Noce is very soft chocolatey and of prunes and cocoa. Noticaelby easy on the sharp bitterness that plenty of hops bring to the party in a RIS. Flavor was similar with lots of creamy chocolately tones. Dried dark pitted fruit and maybe tootsie rolls. Very nice smooth feel. Not over the top thick but buttery and slick. Very tasty new comer to the site. Thanks to Degarth for another winner.
