Fantastically rich and interesting beer. Very stong malty almost Marmite flavours. Balanced sweet and bitter taste. Cannot taste the relatively high alcohol. Really worth trying to find a bottle.

Grima (2033) - Saarburg, Rhineland-Palatinate, GERMANY - SEP 23, 2011
Pours dark ruby red with a creamy, fine brown head. Smells like dark malts, very roasty and coffee-like, slightly aroma of licorice comes through. Starts very roasted malty, slightly sweet, intense coffee flavor. The middle part has some earthy-smoky flavors. Roasted coffee in the finish, subtly smoky / peaty, again, dominated by licorice flavor! Absolutely magnificent Doppelbock!!!

bottle from Bierzwerg. Deep brown colour, creamy beige head. Intensive malt flavours, roasted malts, cocoa powder, dates, walnut, chocolate... Slightly hoppy in the finish with a herbal character. Perfectly balanced beer full of flavour and character. A true delight!

Bottle from bierzwerg.de. dark reddish brown color with huge beige head. Sweet malt, fruity aroma with molasses, caramel, raisins, honey, wood. Malty, fruity taste with caramel, dates, cocoa, some sourness, light bitterness in finish. Long bittersweet, roasty alcoholic finish. Nice.

0,5l bottle from Sörspecialista, Budapest. Clear, reddish brown color with quickly diminishing, light brown head. Grainy, a bit fruity and floral aroma, but at the same time it’s hoppy and bitter. Light bitter taste, the malty sweetness appears behind the hoppy bitterness. In the aftertaste it reminds me to wine a little. Medium body, creamy texture, average carbonation. This is an excellent beer, more complex than usual doppelbocks. Not that sweet and has more complex aroma thank to the hops. It makes it well balanced.

Bottled. A dark brown cola coloured beer with a dissipating off-white head. a typically sweet strong doppelbock with great licorice notes. Molasses and cake. Some burnt malts. Totally enjoyable really good beer.

Am I seriously the first person to rate this? It was already listed and drank like a beer that has been brewed for centuries. Bottle from Alexander Wines, Coventry. Deep brilliant ruby with a fine, lacing cappuccino head. Black bread aroma, figs, honey, sticky Chinese sauces, hints of battered sausage on vinegared newspaper..but incredibly, some hay and shrubby hop through the stickiness. Finely sieved, chocolatey taste with juicy prune, Twiglet, slightly lactic and smoked hay notes. Swirl of brine from an old tin can. Seductively German, sweet, serious stuff.

Bottle at Amundsen, Oslo. Lovely glowing ruby, beige head. Slow flowing, lazy bubbles. Not skimpy on the malt. Aroam of malt and raisins. Sweet, burned sugar, bitter background. A hint of yeast. Rich flavor, would be perfect with pork ribs or a ripe cheese.
