3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle at home in London with Lyoli. Pours mostly clear, dark amber with tons - TONS - of sediment and a moderate cream head. Smells great, all sweet caramel, berries and other ripe fruit. Tastes pretty good, too. Medium to heavy sweet, some meaty, ripe fruits, toffee, sweet bread. Full bodied with average carbonation. Sweet, lightly warm finish, lots of dark sugar, dark and ripe fruits, faint tangy berries and plums, some toffee. Aside from the rather off-putting appearance it is a pretty nice beer.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
25.4 oz. bottle, consumed on 12-12-11. 2003 edition, according to the cork. Labeled as "Duinen Dubbel." Sour aroma features red apple, green apple, and golden raisin scents. Pours a maroon with a deep but bright red hue. Beautiful dark red appearance. Moderate amount of taupe head. Caramel, red apple, and lemon flavors. Astringent finish. Sharp, bitter aftertaste. A little bit of heat in the palate. On the verge of being unpleasant. Looks and smells more like wine than it does like a typical beer. Interesting beer; intense and definitely memorable.

Dark brown with 3" of light tan head. Aroma is caramel apples, with very faint cinnamon/spice. Taste is the same, and red apple is prominent, and absent most of the dark fruit in American examples. Slight grape and cola into the finish. 2.5Eu/33cl

Decent caramel and toffee flavours, but a very metallic smell. Might carry some of the metal in its flavour too.
