3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
21/III/14 - 37.5cl bottle from Geers (Oostakker) @ home - BB: VII/2020 (2014-301)
Note: I’ve been holding on to this one, not for a special reason, just never came around to opening it. Opportunity knocked when I had a female US Couch Surfer coming over, claiming she especially liked Belgian sour ales. Well, there’s something you don’t hear every day.
Little cloudy beige beer, small irregular off-white head, little stable, non adhesive. Aroma: fruity, some citrus, bit sweet, lemony, bit funky, sourish. MF: lively carbon, medium to light body. Taste: bit lemony, metallic touch, bitter, pretty sour, lemony, bit funky. Aftertaste: very sour, lemon peel, little bitter, funky edition.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottled 375ml. -from Svijet Piva Zagreb. Cloudy golden coloured, small off-white head, dry and sourish fruity nose. Pleasant sour gueuze taste with notes of wood, barnyard and maybe apples. The finish is sweeter that should be and pretty dry. Really interesting and quite good brew.

Crystalline lemon yellow pour with a negligible head. Nose is citric, with an umami undertone. Taste is a general tart, with few individual notes standing out.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a chill hazed golden yellow on tp with thick off-white hed that leaves great lacing. Aroma is awesome funk with sour fruit and barnyard hay. Taste is funky awesome sour with hint of sirt and sweetness. Very nice, much better than their framboise.

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
375ml bottle from Binnys South Loop (Chicago, IL). Purchased this a long time ago and finally looked at it and said "Why not?". Pours a well hazed golden orange hue, darker body shows some deeper glowing colors, well hazed with a smaller white head atop that stays as a soapy ring, laces ok. Aromas show some decent funk and oak, cobwebs meet more grainy fresh cut grass and straw, touches of citrus, lactic yogurty feel come on more as it settles down a bit. Touches of horseblanket, wet oak, and gentle green apple play a bit more. Initial is more sour and potent than anticipated, some lemony vibrant sour acidity hits the palate with green apple, yogurt and straw coming in quickly. A bit sharp on the palate and clunky, unrefined as we show more funk, sweat socks and rubbery elements hit the bready malt, more oak presence as we start moving on. A bit sweet as we keep moving, the sweetened yogurty feel hits with pear, green apple, and a bit harsh as we turn the corner. There is certainly a lot going on here, making this one feel a bit disjointed overall. The finish is a touch more dry and oaky, but the beer really doesn’t flow all the well, harsh at times and without much flow. The acedic character up front that trails off seems unrefined overall. This was certainly an interesting beer, but with so many better and refined Gueuze offerings available, it’d be silly to buy much more of this I think. It’s not a bad beer, but it just seems messy when compared to others.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft at Eulogy. Cloudy orange brown pour with a marshmallow white head. Tart and funky. Some dark fruit. Fuller body than expected but the flavors are not that extraordinary for a proper Gueuze.
