3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
The western Flemish version of lambic also has this attempt at an ’oude geuze’; rating from old notes, but this still exists, apparently. Hazy straw blonde under a medium, off-white head; ’mellow’ lactic acidity, cheese, sherry, wet hay, lots of fruity esters, sweeter, less complex and softer than the average Senne valley geuze, but still very funky, dry and credible. In fact, probably the most interesting Van Honsebrouck product around. Isolated case, very interesting.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours slightly hazy pale amber with one finger of loose ivory head diminishing rapidly to a thin skim, no lacing. (4/5) Nose is sour lemon, woody oak, mild dusty and cobwebby vinegar, slight funk. (7/10) Taste is mild sweet, moderately strong tart. (7/10) Medium body, prickly carbonation, dry and tart finish. (4/5)
A fairly plain gueuze - nothing exciting or complex, but decently well-behaved. The sour tartness is strongly pronounced, with restrained sweetness and mild cobwebby funk. (15/20)

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Apple cider looking pour. Good head, but gone quickly. As far as gueuze goes, this is fine but straight forward. Sweet and sour, plenty of acidic fruity notes. A little cobwebs and dust. Plenty enjoyable, but not transcendent.

Almost clear amber beer, tidy pale cream colour head. Palate is light, dry and crisp. Medium sourness. Wet wood, slightly dusty. Touch of dried fruits. Light dry finish. A bit over emphasised on the wet wood but okay.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Had this months ago. Brownish, just as apple juice but more clear and witha clear thin foam layer. Aroma is sour, softly so but not too complicated. Lemon, sour, fermented. Taste is also quite nice and easygoing, light sourish drink that is nicely drinkable. Belgium comes in mind :) Finish is quite dry. Clean, citrusy geuze.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from the LCBO. Bright and very slightly hazy copper-leaning orange-gold with a thin white head. Aroma of slightly fermented lemon, peppery yeast, a slight dusty-funky backnote. Flavour is undeniably tart, but with a sweet tone to it as well, like SweeTarts candy. Notes of various sour fruits - sour apple, sour grapes, lemon - come towards the finish, along with a surprisingly pleasant brackishness right at the end. Not the most complex gueuze around, but still a very enjoyable and respectable one.
