4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: MAR 7, 2011 Bottle at Brother Tuckers. Big cherry nose. What a fantastic surprise. Crisp and sweet with big cherry flavors. it’s the kinda beer you might only have one or two of because of the sweetness, but still rally good stuff. Can you say "PANTY DROPPER"?

Bottle 25cl. Clear deep red color, small frothy pinkish head, mostly lasting, fair lacing; aroma sweetsour, cherry syrup, candy sugar, jam; taste moderate sweet, light sour, cherry, sugary; medium body, sticky texture, average carbonation, finish sweetsour; overall a refreshing fruit beer, less sweet than I expected, but also less sour.

Am Anfang leicht süßlich mit schönem Sauerkirscharoma. Im Abgang leicht bitter - meiner Frau hat es gut gefallen, meins eher nicht.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
(Draught at Café Gollem, Amsterdam, 22 Aug 2014) Red colour with frothy, beige head. Fruity nose with cherries, bitter almond and red fruit. Fruity taste with notes of cherries, red fruit, bitter almond and a certain sweetness coming through. Medium body. Straightforward and fairly uncomplicated, but tasty with a fresh cherry character. Quite nice.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
375mL bottle, pours a nearly opaque pinkish dark red with a small off-white head. Aroma brings out sugary sweet cherries, but not cloying. Flavour is around the same, with sweetened cherries, but not too sweet nor cloying. Not complex or anything, but it’s an easy drinking sugary fruit beer. Nice commercial lambic, as far as they go.

Draft. It’s totally not for me, but i can tell that’s one of the best fruit lambics i’ve had. Looks great in it’s own glass.

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Tasted as Saint-Louis Kriek Lambic (in the original 4.5% ABV version) and as Vieux Bruxelles Kriek Lambic (with 4% ABV), the alias under which it is sold in the Aldi supermarkets. Thin but more or less stable, moussy, off-pink head, colour very deep ruby red like a young bordeaux, clear. Strong and artificial, candy-like cherry sweetness dominates the nose, reminiscent of red, sticky candy and strongly sugared, industrial cherry jam, hints of liquorice, lemon, red apple, honey, lemonade and still some (very) vague, sweaty and funky lambic-like accents. Taste sweet and sugary, cherry candy and red fruit jam, but still ’bearable’ compared with the Premium version and actually reminding of actual, genuine cherry juice, tartness more from ascorbic acid than from lambic but in the finish, some faint woodiness is still present, though the dryness is mostly achieved by the ascorbic acid. Sugary and syrupy sweetness does stick to the teeth and throat and annoys me. Thinnish mouthfeel (low ABV usually implies low body) with soft carbonation. Not as lemonade-like as many of its congeners and in that sense not the worst ’sweet kriek’ I ever had, but the style will never fit my personal taste and this kind of oversugared fruit beers are still like liquid candy to me (which is exactly the intention, of course), whether it’s made from actual Zenne valley lambic or Western Flemish ’lambic’ like this one. If one considers only the latter, this is on a par with Jacobins Kriek (not the Max version) from Bockor, but perhaps a tad less sweet.

2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20
Bottle. Pour is like cherry juice. Aroma is cherry. This sucked. Taste is too sweet for a lambic, and very cloying. Ugh.
