COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In the small village of Meer, north of the city of Antwerp, there used to be an abbey which was famous for its beer named St. Paul. During the French Revolution, the abbey was destroyed and so it was said-one father named Paul, rescued the secret recipes to brew the abbey beer and trust them onto the local Sterkens family, at that time a renowned brewer family. The Sterkens family had been brewing beer since 1654, and their St. Paul abbey beer is still brewed today, respectfully according to the centuries old tradition.

33 cL bottle. Pours deep brown, almost black with brown and fast disappearing head. Aroma of fruit, roasted malt (almost orasted coffee), yeast and sweet odour. Flavour is dry to sweet malty. Finish is dried fruits. Softly carbonated.

The head is nice, but disappears rather quickly, the color is dark brown and the aroma is slightly malty with a hint of alcohol. The flavour is sweetish, malty and a bit thin with notes of licorice, plum and modest bitterness. Nothing special.

The aroma is malty with yeast, toast, caramel, and fruit. The appearance is raisin purple with brown. The head is non existent as the beer is totally flat. The flavor is not vinegary as I was afraid based on the age of the bottle. The palate is watery. Sadly this beer is old and flat but the taste does not seem to suffer.

I belive we got a old bottle, there is no carbination for this, but still. the malts give off decent fruit flavors and a mild astrigent bitterness at the end. I hope I can come across another of these for more a detailed review.

Dense, but little consistent cream. What it makes an impression it is the amount of “not identified objects” that come it in the glass together with. Probably not-filtered must or I leaven. Strong aroma of toasted coffee, hiding all the others that possibly exist. In the palate, in such a way extreme carbonation one, taste of strong coffee and toasting. Aftertaste of alcohol.

Dark, almost black colored pour with nice small head. Nice aroma of malts and hints of chocolate. Nice roasted malty flavor to it.
