Pours a clear, faint yellow with some carbonation and a very white head. Aroma is very skunky with malt, grain and swamp. The mouth is a little better, but not much. Sweet and grainy, with slight malt characteristics.

2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
DATE TASTED: December 14, 2014... GLASSWARE: Weihenstephan pilsener... OCCASION: drinking off and away Johnny Football’s forgettable first start... APPEARANCE: transparent, sallow yellow body; off-white head begins well but flattens to a casual smear... AROMA: beefy, doughy, buttery fragrance associated with cheaper, imported, green-bottled lagers... PALATE: drinkably nondescript--light and refreshing but so liquid, the only thing left is a small biscuity aftertaste...TASTE: thin, sweet and syrupy flavors dominate a rather weak profile... OVERALL: tough to slam a beer that is as happily drinkable as SPG, so I will instead suggest that in the right circumstance, this beer could compliment the standard party fair...but it doesn’t distinguish itself much from the other green-bottled brethren...

Fresh bottle (best before 07.2015), but green glass -- it was a toss-up, but no skunk here. Nose is very strong in corn, light grain, sugary. Pours pale yellow-golden that’s closer to clear, abundant silent carbonation and a bright soapy head. Taste is very sweet and grainy, malt is simple but not watery, there’s a touch of fresh bread expanding in the finish but it’s capped by a metallic ceiling. Light body, somewhat crisp and nicely soft, does manage to squeeze in some noble hop juice (actually, much more than many better-liked German pilsner). Light grassy character, not terribly dirty (not terribly clean, either), mineral/hard water character, but probably one of the better examples to be found in green bottles.

12 oz via bottle at Cleo’s. Clear appearance with a white head. Crisp and pretty smooth with light malty sweetness and minimal bitterness. Boring but easy to drink.

Just because its a corporate owned brew doesn’t mean its bad. It is actually a great German brew, and who could deny Hallertau hops from the most famous Hallertau Gardens don’t shine through in this golden beauty.

Poured from green bottle into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a light golden color with a two finger head of a pure white color. The head has a decent level of retention, slowly fading to leave a moderate level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – Now being poured from a green bottle this is not too surprising, but the beer is full of a big skunky smell. Along with this aroma is a decently strong grainy smell as well as a bit of a grassy and hay like aroma.
Taste – The taste begins with a drier grainy taste with just a hint of a caramel sweetness. As the taste advances some more grassy and herbal flavors come to the tongue along with a light skunk flavor. Overall the skunk is quite light however and with a bit of a biscuit flavor and a slightly dwindling of the caramel more toward the end of the taste, one is left with a mild and somewhat crisp flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is on the thinner and more watery side with a carbonation level that is on the average to slightly higher side. Both are quite appropriate for the style of the brew and make for an easy drinker.
Overall – Nothing really special here. A dry lager that, unfortunately due to the desire to put in a green bottle, has a slightly skunky flavor with a big skunk aroma. Nothing too special, but not insanely offensive either.

Distinct skunky aroma. Mild watery flavor with no aftertaste. Burp flavor (you know what I mean) tastes like the beer smells, skunky and unpleasant.

1.8 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
Aroma of faint hops with cardboard. Appearance is minimal head and okay yellow body with no carbonation. flavour is weak lemon and wine with a dry finish. It’s a boring but adequate lager.
