Flaske 330ml fra Vinmonopolet Tromsø - Sentrum. Mørk amber. Lavt skum som blir nesten helt borte. God aroma av mørke plommer. Smaken det samme. Litt tørr etter hvert. Lettere sherrypreg. God julefølelse.

Bottle, 0.50l. Hazy ruby brown color with thin creamy tan-like head and average sparkling appearance. Aroma of bread, caramel and dark fruits. Taste starts with sweet toffee and toasted malt, follows by dark fruits with warming alcoholic mouthfeel and moderate grassy bitter finish. Medium body, syrupy texture and lively carbonation in palate. The same as any other English strong ale..

Marrón oscura, castaña. Escasa espuma. Aroma tostado, malta, madera, oporto. Sabor dulce y licórico. Muy malteado, fruto seco y licor. Bizcocho, caramelo, frutos secos. Todo un pudding de Navidad. 7 grados nada escondidos. Combínese con postres (impresionante con dulce navideño). Si no, parece mas un licor.

Bottle wrapping with the missus. Clear red with little head. Aroma of plum bobbing in cola and Jagermeister-like spices; squashy fruit loaf doppelbock malt thinly buttered, caraway. Novelty US export-friendly flask bottle remains curiously tactile. Warming stone fruit, cloved orange, mouthwash spice over nectarine. Hint of Belgium. Slightly tongue-numbing. Definite caraway-like spice. It’s OK but a big slug of booze for limited return.

(Draught at Man in the Moon, Stockholm, 5 Dec 2014) Reddish amber colour with brief, off-white head. Malty nose with caramel, toffee, chocolate and dried fruit. Malty, fruity taste with notes of caramel, dried fruit, apricots, red fruit and a balanced spicy bitterness in the finish. More than medium body, with a certain sweetness. Tasty, rounded and well balanced winter warmer. Nice one.

500ml bottle from Tesco - Clear ruby-brown beer with no foam on top. Nose is a bunch of full ripe fruits, toffee and prunes, a bit bready. Taste has a good rich malt core, light sweetness and some late tartness; dry and spicy finish with more notes of red fruit hoppiness. Really this is a bit of a dark horse. I’d not be unhappy to have another of these.

Bottle from Booths, Media City. Clear dark red with next to no head. It’s strength is initially evident in its nose, and again in taste, although its gentle sweetness throughout dulls this to an extent and its a decent enough but average winter warmer. Has a caramel-toffee aroma.

Sampled from a bottle from Tesco. Pours a beautiful reddish brown with a cream coloured head. Aromas of sweet malts and Christmas spices. The taste is sweet and dominated by caramel, with a pleasant overlay of dried fruit, cinnamon and a hint of ginger. Good bitterness to offset the sweetness, the finish being spicy and long. I would have preferred more spice and fruit flavours to balance the slightly cloying sweetness.
